The Chattanooga Mocs softball team clinched a 3-0 win over UMass Lowell to close out regular-season tournament play. UTC is 17-15 going into Southern Conference play next weekend.
"I would have liked to see more offense, but we had just enough," head coach
Frank Reed stated. "All in all, it was a pretty good day for us."
Sophomore
Cori Jennings started off strong, tossing back-to-back strikeouts in the second and three in the third. She fanned 11 after pitching a complete game.
"Cori is coming off of an injury," said Reed. "Having 11 strikeouts, that's cool for her."
Chattanooga got its offense going in the third. Senior
Anyssa Robles batted in the first run, bringing freshman
Alyssa Coppinger home.
Senior
Criket Blanco followed with a triple to center field, leading senior
Sam Taylor and Robles to score. Blanco leads the squad with 19 RBI.
UTC had seven hits compared to the River Hawks' two, while both teams recorded no errors.
The Mocs kick off league play against Furman in Frost Stadium. The squads square off in a doubleheader Friday at 5:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) and a lone game Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Tickets for individual games in Frost Stadium are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. UTC students are admitted free with a valid Mocs Card.
