San Juan Leads Mocs to 2nd in SoCon First Round

Monica San Juan is tied for third at +2 leading the Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team into second-place after 18 holes at the Southern Conference Championships.

POOLER, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is in second after 18 holes at the Southern Conference Championships. The Mocs shot 13-over par 301 and are three shots off the pace set by No. 22 Furman.
Freshman Monica San Juan shook off a rocky start to lead the way with a 74 (+2). San Juan was +4 thru 10 holes before back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12. She got back to +1 with a birdie on 17, but bogeyed 18 for her 74.
San Juan is tied for third, three shots behind the leader Alice Chen (Furman). Valentina Romero (Furman) is second at +1, while Linda Dobele (ETSU) is tied for third with San Juan.
Megan Woods is another shot back, tied for third at +3. The Mocs sophomore her lone birdie of the day on two. UTC posted just seven birdies on the day as Savannah Quarters Country Club proved stingy.
Emily McLennan and Cris Perez are tied for seventh. The duo rounded out the counting cards with 4-over 76s.
ETSU follows Furman and UTC in third at 305. Samford is in fourth with a 319.
Due to potential inclement weather on Tuesday, the tournament will end tomorrow with 36 holes. It's a 9 a.m., shotgun start with the Mocs again paired with the Paladins and Bucs. Live scoring and pairings links are available above.
