UTC Golf Player Development Center
2453 Hickory Valley Rd
Chattanooga TN 37421
The Player Development Complex is the 2023 Collegiate Field of the Year per the Tennessee Turfgrass Association.
The Chattanooga Mocs golf programs are blessed with a fantastic rotation of area courses to prepare for tournament play and grow their games. Each provides a championship challenge for our student-athletes.
Â
From exclusive clubs to professional venues to famous architects to cutting-edge facilities, Chattanooga has it all. And the availability to the Mocs golf programs makes it a highly-enviable situation in the college game.
Â
It all starts with our own practice facilities. Yes, facilities. The primary venue is the 32-acre Player Development Complex. It began as a combined effort with the First Tee of Chattanooga but has become the sole home of our golf programs.
Â
Everything is in place at the facility for complete performance enhancement.
Clubhouse
The team clubhouse includes everything our programs need when not in practice mode. It's a relaxing space with TV, ping pong, kitchen and study areas to serve as a home away from home.
Â
Hitting Bay
There are two shaded, covered areas in which to practice year round. The jewel of the facility is the hitting bay at the far end on the main range. It provides more of a climate-controlled setting for practice on sunny days and rainy. There is also a mobile canopy providing a shaded area next to the hitting bay structure.
Â
Analytics
The programs are equipped with the latest swing and putting devices for a comprehensive development plan for each player. Between the Trackman, FlightScope and SAM PuttLab, each student-athlete gets a detailed analytical accounting of their swing and stroke.
Â
Trackman and FlightScope tracks ball speed, yardage control and spin. It provides specific data to hone the swing and prepare for all types of shots. The instant feedback gives our players an edge from tee-to-green. It starts with understanding length off the tee all the way through regulating wedge play from distance to spin control.
Â
Range
The complex's vast range area is double-sided and has multiple targets in tee-to-green prep. It is a full-distance solution with zero driver restrictions. The trees within the range are a unique feature adding a shot-making element and on-course atmosphere.
Â
There are target greens at virtually any distance allowing a player to work on every club in the bag. Specifically, the extensive wedge range allows the ability to "dial in" on the wedge game whether from a full and intermediate distances.
Â
Practice makes perfect so the range is equipped with Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls.
Â
Putting/Short Game
There are three full-sized chipping and putting greens with more than 16,000 square feet of space. Each of the practice greens are bunkered maximizing preparation on and around the green.
Â
Practice Holes
Three are available with two par 3s and a par 4 with various tee and yardage options. There's even the possibility of a 560-yard par 5 depending on the space usage. These holes build course-management development applying the various practice areas and opportunities.
Â
UTC Golf Short Game Center
There is also a campus home with an indoor facility in the University's McKenzie Arena. It provides tremendous short-game preparation with a state-of-the-art indoor practice green. It is also home to the SAM PuttLab which provides a tremendous advantage on the green.
Â
It analyzes the stroke and roll of the ball. This offers instantaneous recognition of any flaw while also developing vital confidence in putting performance.
Â
Rain or shine, cold or hot, no matter the weather, no matter the class situation, there is always next-level preparation opportunities for our student-athletes.
Â
Home Courses
Top-notch practice facilities are not the only thing our programs boast. Some of the finest courses available anywhere in the country are not only found in Chattanooga, but also open their tee boxes to our players.
Â
Courses with architects named Jack Nicklaus, Donald Ross, Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Seth Raynor and Bob Cupp trace their way through the Tennessee Valley. Our venues hosted PGA (Council Fire G.C. & Valleybrook G.C.) and Web.com Tour (Black Creek Club) events. The U.S. Amateur and NCAA Championships have been settled at the Honors Course.
Â
The Farm held one of the most prestigious collegiate events, the Carpet Capital Collegiate, from 1989 to 2019. Chattanooga Golf & Country Club counts the great Bobby Jones among its tournament champions winning the 1920 Southern Amateur on the banks of the Tennessee River.
Â
Traditional-area venues Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain Golf and Country Clubs tower over the city. The latter's Signal Mountain Invitational has long served as a tune-up for NCAA postseason play for the men's team. Creeks Bend, right across the street from Valleybrook, also serves as a welcome home for our programs.
Â
Bear Trace in Harrison Bay State Park is the jewel of Nicklaus' Tennessee footprint. It certainly aligns with the time-honored Scenic City nickname our area treasures. Then there are the young upstarts as the 9-hole Sweetens Cove opened to rave reviews in 2011. Only nine holes? Wow are they special. Special enough to rank as Golfweek's No. 50 Modern Course in the U.S.
Not long after, McLemore Resort opened its 36-hole venue on the cliff edges atop Lookout Mountain. The Highlands began in 2019 with its 18th hole ranking 22nd on Golf Digest's Best Holes in America. The Keep came alive in 2024. They were designed by Bill Bergin and Rees Jones.
Â
The Mocs comprehensive practice facilities are vital in keeping the programs among the best in the country.
