Mocs Split Games with ETSU, Close out Regular Season

UTC hit five home runs in the doubleheader.

The Chattanooga Mocs softball team fell 6-3 and won 11-3 in five innings against ETSU to close out the regular season and Senior Weekend. UTC hit five home runs in the doubleheader, including two from both seniors Anyssa Robles and Sam Taylor.

Chattanooga is 28-27 and 7-11 in Southern Conference action.

ETSU got off to a solid start in the second game by scoring three runs in the first. However, the Mocs answered quickly.

Sam Taylor blasted a homer on UTC's first at bat. Senior Alyssa Taylor followed with a single, while Robles batted her in off a double.

In the third, Robles hit a two-run homer to give Chattanooga the lead 4-3.

The Mocs had an impressive fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Sam Taylor knocked out her second home run of the game, batting in senior Amanda Ross. Freshman Jordan Fortel also hit a two-run homer to bring the score to 11-3.

Sophomore Cori Jennings earned her 14th win from the circle after pitching three strikeouts.

In the first game of the day, the Bucs had a strong first inning as well, including a three-run homer from Taylor Carter, to take a 4-0 lead. ETSU added another run during the top of the third.

Sam Taylor doubled, while seniors Alyssa Taylor and Criket Blanco followed with singles to load the bases in the bottom of the third. Then, Sam Taylor was batted in by sophomore Ashley Conner to make the score 5-1.

The Bucs Jayci McGill scored off a double from Bethany Cowart in the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Robles knocked out her second homer of the season. Ross and Sam Taylor hit back-to-back singles, with Taylor batting in freshman Katie Corum for the Mocs third run.

Fortel pitched a complete game, while tossing four strikeouts.

Chattanooga travels to Greensboro, N.C., for the Southern Conference Tournament May 11-14.
