CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team allowed just one goal Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 loss to Alabama at Finley Stadium. The Mocs fall to 1-3 overall and the Tide remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Â
"It was not the result we wanted," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "We conceded an early goal in the second half, there, and it made us chase a little it and, I thought, get us out of rhythm, a little bit panicky for a stretch. In turn, we were defending for really long stretches.
Â
"We just need to slow it down and keep possession a little bit more and there were glimpses of that towards the end of the half. We were a little bit cleaner on the ball and competed really hard out there altogether."
Â
Alabama's goal came in the 48
th minute on a cross from Abbie Boswell to Lacey Clarida who tallied her sixth goal of the year.
Â
The Tide outshot Chattanooga 18-3 with seven on goal while two of the Mocs were picked up by keeper Kat Stratton. Chattanooga freshman keeper
Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) had six saves in her third game.
Â
Chattanooga got shots from juniors
Peyton McCollum and
Ellie Myrick and freshman
Bailey Gale. Alabama's Boswell had a game-high four shots and Jordan Meier sent three towards the net.
Â
"Defensively we've been good enough," McKinney said. "We've been tough to break down. They've been scoring goals this year and we held them at bay most of the game. The defensive side is great, collective throughout the whole team.
Â
"We need to be a bit more fluid in possession in the way we build and create chances. You only get so many and we need to be cutthroat enough to take them."
Â
The Mocs will hit the road for a road match at Morehead State next Sunday at 1 p.m. Follow all the action online at GoMocs.com.
