CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team takes the tee Monday for the first time in the 2016-17 season. They'll face 15 other teams in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
Chattanooga returns three performers from last year's squad in Southern Conference medalist Megan Woods, Cristina Perez and Monica San Juan. Coach Colette Murray adds three freshmen to the mix with Maddy McDanel, Holly Morgan and Maria Pineiro.
All six Mocs are in the field. Woods, Perez, San Juan, McDanel and Morgan qualified for the starting lineup. Pineiro is playing as an individual.
They'll face a strong cast of schools with host Tennessee, Florida, Wake Forest, Iowa State and North Carolina headlining the event. The 16 teams tackle the unique par 71, 5,897-yard tract that features six par 3s and five par 5s balanced by seven par 4s.
This is the eighth time in nine years the Mocs make the trek up I-75 for this tournament. The best finish came when the 2010-11 squad ended up seventh behind current Ladies European Tour member Christine Wolf's tie for ninth shooting E.
