The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team is off to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a Sunday matchup against the Tar Heels. The Mocs are looking for their first win of the spring after dropping a 7-0 decision in their season-opener at MTSU on Monday.
North Carolina brings a 3-0 record and a No. 9 national ranking. First serve is Jan. 22, at 12:30 p.m. (E.S.T.), at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. A link for live scoring is available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
"My team is very excited about the opportunity to compete against a nationally-ranked opponent," stated UTC head coach
Carlos Garcia. "I have tremendous respect for Coach Sam Paul and his program and I am grateful for my team to have this experience."
Garcia spent the 1999-00 season as an assistant to Paul at UNC.
"We are playing a team that is coming off one it's best seasons last year in which they were the #1 team in the nation for several weeks," added Garcia. "We know it is huge challenge but I am seeing improvement every day at practice and in our conditioning."
UNC senior Ronnie Schneider is No. 38 in the ITA national singles rankings, while freshman Joshua Peck is No. 57. Schneider and fellow senior Jack Murray are also ranked No. 43 in doubles.
The Mocs are 0-4 all-time against UNC, including a 7-0 loss in the last meeting on Jan. 19, 2015.
