SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team dropped a tough five-set (23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 10-15) match on the road at Wofford on Saturday afternoon.

Following the loss, the Mocs drop to 11-11 overall and 4-4 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improves to 15-7, 5-3 in SoCon action.

Offensively,
Ally Ford led the way with a team-high 14 kills while
Miranda Elpers followed with eight and
Dani Szczepanski with seven. The Mocs were limited to a 0.73 attacking percentage for the match including a combined .055 percentage in the final two sets.

Defensively,
Megan Kaufman led the team with 17 digs while Szczepanski and
Eden Murray posted 7.0 and 5.0 total blocks, respectively. Chattanooga was out-blocked 13.0 to 11.0 and out-dug 70 to 52 during the five sets.

The Mocs served up seven aces, but committed 12 service errors in return.
Madison Bergren led the team with four aces, all coming during the same rotating serve.

1st Set | UTC 25, WOF 23
The Mocs came out and grabbed an early 5-3 lead on a
Miranda Elpers kill before Wofford responded to take a 10-6 lead, forcing UTC into a timeout. The Mocs rallied to tie things up at 13-13 on a 7-3 run capped off by a Wofford attacking error. The set went back-and-forth all the way to a 23-23 score before kills from
Ally Ford and
Dani Szczepanski gave Chattanooga 25-23 set win and a 1-0 lead in the match.

2nd Set | WOF 25, UTC 15
After falling in the initial set, Wofford took the lead at 5-4 and never relinquished from that point. The Terriers built up a six-point lead at 15-9 before finishing off the set with a convincing score of 25-15 to tie the match at 1-1 heading into the break.

3rd Set | UTC 25, WOF 21
Madison Bergren provided the spark Chattanooga needed coming out of the locker room. The senior entered the match for the first time to take service duties and went on a tear. With the score tied 3-3, Bergren notched four service aces in route to an 8-0 Mocs run, extending their lead to 11-3. Both teams traded the next eight points to bring the score to 15-7 before Wofford rallied to cut the deficit to four at 18-14. Just like much of the set, both teams exchanged points down the stretch, ultimately ending in a 25-21 set win for Chattanooga.

4th Set | WOF 25, UTC 20
In a must-win set for the Terriers, Wofford took the first four points and seven of the first nine to build an early 7-2 lead. The Mocs would respond with a 6-1 run to tie things up 8-8 before Wofford extended out to a 16-12 lead. The Mocs would cut it to three at 22-19, but Wofford fought off a Mocs rally to take a 25-20 set win and force a fifth set.

5th Set | WOF 15, UTC 10
The Mocs found themselves in a deciding fifth set for the second-straight match. Wofford raced out to an 8-4 lead at the split, gaining momentum heading into the second half of the set. Chattanooga clawed back and cut the deficit to 12-10 before Wofford ended the set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2, by scoring three-straight points.
