Luke Long led the Chattanooga Mocs to a 588 start at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Long's 4-under 140 is tied for fourth through 36 holes at Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
A tough opening 18 was followed with a lackluster 11 holes. The squad turned in 302 over that first round and was 5-over in the second when the birdies came in bunches.
The counting cards played those final holes at 7 under for a season-best 286. They recorded eight birdies over that stretch to put themselves in position for a solid finish on Tuesday.
The 588 total is 10th one behind USC Upstate in ninth and one ahead of George Washington in 11th. It was powered four par or better scores with two coming from Long.
He was 2 over through 12 holes. Long played 6 under over his remaining 24 with nine birdies. He and
Etienne Brault combined for 13 birdies during the afternoon 18.
Brault and
Phillip Hickam, playing as an individual, are tied for 25th. The duo is an even-par 144.
Lake Johnson shot 6-over 150 ahead of
Will Porter (156) and
Connor Nolan (158).
North Carolina and N.C. State are atop the leaderboard at 560. Campbell is six back in third at 566. The Pack's Stephen Franklin shot 66-65 for a 13-under total of 131 to lead individually.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
- Long's 140 is the best 36-hole score his season by a Moc.
- UTC played the front side 8 over in round one but was 4 under in the afternoon.
- The Mocs had seven birdies on the first 18 then 20 over the second. Most birdies in a round since 20 in the final round of the 2012 Brickyard Collegiate.

Tuesday, Oct. 3 – 8 a.m., off the 10th hole. Playing with George Washington and Francis Marion. Nolan leads off with Porter (8:09), Johnson (8:18), Brault (8:27) and Long (8:36) not far behind. Hickam opens at 9:03 a.m., also on the 10th tee.
