KIAWAH ISLAND---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team ended up third at the East Bay Deli Classic. So did junior
Lake Johnson.
Johnson opened the tournament with a 7-over 79 in the brutal, blustery conditions Sunday. He followed yesterday's 69 with a 4-under 68 Tuesday to get back to level-par 216, just three shots off medalist Art Griffin's (Charleston Southern) winning pace.
He was not alone in bouncing back from that first-day dilemma. Luke Long earned his second top 10 of the 2017-18 campaign with a 6-over 222. Long shot another 70 today playing his final 36 at 4 under. Individual Will Porter managed the last two days at 1 under after starting out with an 84.
UTC turned in 290 over today's final 18. Johnson and Long were joined by Connor Nolan and
Etienne Brault with counting cards. Nolan shot 75, while Brault posted 77.
Andrew Weathers (78) and Phillip Hickam (80) had the drop scores. Three individuals played as well with Porter's 72 followed by Oliver Simonsen's 74 and A.J. Lintunen's 75.
Weathers and Porter also finished in the top 25 for the Mocs. Weathers tied for 21st at 225 (+9) with Porter two behind him tied for 25th at 227 (+11).
No. 26 Tennessee claimed the win shooting 873. Jacksonville State posted the low round of the day with 283 to end up second at 881. Chattanooga was third at 884.
