CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against UNCG in Southern Conference action on a very rainy Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium. The game was pushed up three hours to avoid inclement weather forecast for the area due to Tropical Storm Nate.
Â
The Mocs are now 3-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 against the SoCon while the Spartans move to 5-7-3 on the year and 2-2-2 in conference play.
Â
"It was a day for toughness and fight due to the rainy conditions," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "I thought they took to that very well and fought for 110 minutes. I thought the effort was fantastic."
Â
Chattanooga came out aggressive, getting four shots on goal in five attempts in the first half. The Mocs kept the Spartans at bay, not allowing a single shot on goal in seven tries in regulation.
Â
Redshirt freshman
Catherine Meyer (Hendersonville, Tenn.) had a game-high four shots with three on goal for UTC and freshman
Chloe Arnold (Bristol, Tenn.) added three.
Â
"Both sides had chances to win it," McKinney said. "I thought it was an even game."
Â
The Spartans outshot Chattanooga 14-10, but the Mocs held a 6-4 on goal advantage. In overtime, the Mocs' sophomore keeper
Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) had two big saves to keep UNCG out of the net. She had four saves on the day while UNCG's keeper managed six.
Â
"From a performance standpoint, there were good moments," McKinney said. "With the league so close, it could be a really good point come the end of the year."
Â
The Mocs will close out the road portion of the schedule next weekend at The Citadel Friday and Mercer Sunday. Follow the action online at GoMocs.com.
