CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team dropped two games, a 2-1 loss to UMass-Lowell and a 5-2 loss to tournament-host Charleston, on Saturday as part of the Holy City Showdown.

The pair of losses puts the Mocs record at 7-16 on the season as they have dropped six of the last seven games. They'll wrap up play at the Holy City Showdown tomorrow against Northern Kentucky at 9:30 a.m.

Game 1 Recap | UMass-Lowell 2, Chattanooga 1
In the lowest scoring game of the season for both teams, the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell won by way of a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, scoring a runner from third. UML opened the scoring in the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI double down the right field line.

The Mocs got on the board in the top of the fifth when a Brook Womack single and Katy Richardson double put runners on second and third with one out. Womack eventually scored two batters later when Hayleigh Weissenbach reached on a fielding error by the shortstop on a sharply hit ground ball, tying the game at 1-1. UMass-Lowell would eventually win the game on the walk-off single.

Payten Price (5-11) took the loss in the circle as she went 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits, just two runs (both earned) while striking out seven. It was her sixth game of the season striking out more than five batters and fourth with at least seven.

The Mocs totaled seven hits in the loss as Ashley Conner led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 game including her fourth double of the season with a shot down the right field line. Weissenbach recorded a hit for her third-straight game with a 1-for-4 day as Jesslyn Stockard, Richardson and Womack all added a hit to round out the offense.

Game 2 Recap | Charleston 5, Chattanooga 2
The Mocs got on the board in the top of the first against tournament-host Charleston as Weissenbach and J.J. Hamill led the game off with singles and Weissenbach scored a batter later on a fielding error from the shortstop. The Cougars answered in the home half of the first with a solo homerun and added another unearned run with two outs to take a 2-1 lead.

Charleston added an unearned run in both the second and fourth innings to extend a 4-1 lead over Chattanooga and pushed another run across by way of a double-steal in the fifth to make it 5-1.

The Mocs made things interesting in the top of the sixth when Richardson drove in a run to make it a 5-2 ball game, as UTC later loaded the bases with two outs following a single from Halie Williamson. With the go-ahead run at the plate, pinch-hitter Amanda Beltran drove a deep fly ball to left field, but was hauled in just shy of the warning track for a loud third out.

Alex Connell (1-5) was the losing pitcher for the Mocs as she tossed 3.2 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs which only one was earned. Price came in relief of Connell and threw 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one run (earned) while striking out a batter. Weissenbach led the offense with two hits, going 2-for-4 and scoring a run. Hamill went 1-for-1 as did Williamson and Stockard, Aly Walker and Richardson each added a hit a piece.
