Mocs Softball Suffers Sweep to ETSU

Chattanooga dropped two games on the road at ETSU on Friday, 7-3 and 3-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to the hands of ETSU on Friday evening in Johnson City by scores of 7-3 and 3-1.

The pair of losses drops the Mocs to 12-29 overall and 2-9 in the Southern Conference. ETSU improves to 19-19, 5-3 in conference play.

The Mocs will close out the series tomorrow afternoon with a single game and a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Game 1 Recap | ETSU 7, Chattanooga 3
The Bucs got things started in the home half of the first two innings with two runs in the first and three in the second. In the two innings, the Mocs allowed three walks and four hits to fall behind 5-0.

The Mocs chipped away with two runs in the third as J.J. Hamill belted a two-RBI double to the right-center gap, scoring Katy Richardson and Amy Lewis. They added another run in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 5-3, when Halie Williamson singled in Aly Walker after Walker doubled off the fence in left.

After ETSU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, Chattanooga loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with one out, but failed to plate any runs to hold the 6-3 advantage. The Bucs would add an insurance run in the sixth and finish out the ball game, 7-3.

Celie Hudson (3-4) took the loss as she threw 6.0 innings allowing six hits, seven runs (six earned) while giving up seven free passes (six walks, one HBP).

The Mocs out-hit the Bucs 10-6 in the loss as Hamill led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate while driving in two runs. Lewis was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Hayleigh Weissenbach finished 1-for-4. Brook Womack, Walker, Williamson and Richardson all added a hit a piece.

Game 2 Recap | ETSU 3, Chattanooga 1
The game was a pitchers dual and remained scoreless through three and a half innings before the Bucs scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. They would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend out to a 3-0 advantage. Chattanooga got on the board in the top of the seventh when Lewis scored on a wild pitch with two outs, but the game later concluded after an outfield assist nabbed a UTC runner at second for the third out.

The Mocs left runners on-base in all but one inning including two left on in the second, fifth and sixth innings, to accumulate nine for the game. UTC only registered five hits in the loss.

Maddy Adams (1-3) started the game and pitched 3.0 innings allowing six hits and only one run (unearned) and also struck out a batter. The run scored in the bottom of the fourth when Hudson took over for Adams with two runners on and a throwing error allowed a run to score. Hudson tossed the final 3.0 and allowed three hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out one.

The two (Weissenbach), three (Hamill) and four (Womack) hitters for UTC all went 1-for-4 with singles. Jesslyn Stockard went 1-for-3 and Richardson picked up the remaining hit in a 1-for-2 game at the plate.
