CHATTANOOGA. Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's track and field team will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Friday and Saturday for the Crimson Tide Invitational presented by Beynon Sports.
"We are looking forward to a great meet at Alabama," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "The coaches at Alabama have been very gracious with their invite and we hope to perform well."
The Mocs will begin competition Friday night with the 5000 meter run with freshmen Rebekah Wich (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Sydney Gilliam (Brentwood, Tenn.). Wich ranks 15th in the SoCon standings with a time of 19:02.72 at the Emory Classic but posted a PR at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships of 18:46.32.
Saturday's events for Chattanooga will begin with sophomore Haley Morris (Lenoir City, Tenn.) in the 3000 meter Steeplechase Saturday afternoon. Next up for UTC will be the 400 meter dash with freshmen Taylor Sawyer (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Kelsey Henry (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) along with sophomore Madison Watson (Chattanooga, Tenn.).
Sophomore Mercedes Bright (Kingsport, Tenn.) will run the 100 meter dash. She and Henry, Sawyer and freshman Sydney Gautier (Chattanooga, Tenn.) will compete in the 200 meter dash. The 800 meter run will be covered by freshmen Gilliam, Abby Bateman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Maddie Christian (Lenoir City, Tenn.) sophomore Brianna Nelson (Jefferson, Wis.) and junior Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.).
