Game 1 Recap | Western Carolina 11, Chattanooga 2 (6)
The Catamounts struck early in the top of the first with a two-run homerun over the left field fence to take a 2-0 lead. They tacked on a pair of runs in the second off an RBI ground out and RBI single to extend their lead to 4-0.

Chattanooga responded in the bottom half of the second when they loaded the bases for Halie Williamson, who roped a two RBI single to left-center, to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. WCU would score two runs in the third off an RBI double and single to build a 6-2 advantage.

The game remained 6-2 until the top of the sixth when the Catamounts exploded for five runs off a pair of homeruns, two-run and three-run shots to left field. They would hold the mercy rule 11-2 lead and close the game out in the sixth.

Celie Hudson (2-3) took the loss for the Mocs as she tossed 5.0 innings and allowed 11 hits, six runs (all earned) while striking out one and walking three.

Chattanooga finished the game with seven hits as Williamson recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jesslyn Stockard, J.J. Hamill, Hayleigh Weissenbach and Emma Sturdivant all went 1-for-3 while Stockard and Sturdivant both scored a run. Amanda Beltran finished 1-for-2.

The game featured eight total runs between the two teams, but runs were only scored in two of the seven innings. Western Carolina started out the game with six runs in the first off a pair of two-run homeruns and a two RBI double.

Hudson came in relief of starter Maddy Adams and cruised through the rest of the game with not allowing a run and at one point, retired 14-straight WCU batters.

Chattanooga's two runs came in the bottom half of the sixth when back-to-back singles from Beltran and Weissenbach started the inning off and both were driven home on a Sturdivant single up the middle.

Adams suffered the loss (1-2) by surrendering four runs on three hits without recording an out in the first. Hudson went all 7.0 innings and allowed seven hits, two runs (both in the first) while striking out a pair and not walking a single hitter.
