Late Goals Sink Soccer at Elon

ELON, N.C. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 4-1 at Elon Sunday afternoon. The Mocs are 1-2-1 overall and the Phoenix improve to 3-1.

Elon scored two goals in the first half, holding the Mocs scoreless in the frame. Susannah Anderson headed in her third goal of the year on an assist from Lauren McKeever at the 29:35 mark of the match. It would be just under eight minutes later that McKeever would find the net on a pass from Tori Baliatico.

Chattanooga cut the match to just one goal in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick from freshman Chloe Arnold (Bristol, Tenn.) to make it 2-1 at the 82:22 mark.

"We had some spells of decent play throughout the match but did not create enough quality chances," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "We fought hard to bring it back to 2-1 late but we made a few errors that cost us."

It would not take the Phoenix long, however, to stretch its lead back to two goals. Taylor Paradoski got into a 1v1 with Chattanooga sophomore keeper Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) and hit a lob over her head to make it 3-1 with 7:23 remaining in the match.

Carson Jones scored her first goal of the season with a shot placed into the left corner for the final score, 4-1, in the 89th minute.

Elon outshot the Mocs 18-4 with UTC getting just one shot recorded in the opening frame. Freshman Maeve Kelly (Nashville, Tenn.) led UTC with two shots. Correa recorded five saves in the match playing all 90 minutes in goal.
