Mocs Finish in 2-2 Draw at UT Martin

The Skyhawks tied it up with less than three minutes to play.

MARTIN, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team gave up a pair of second half goals to end in a 2-2 draw at UT Martin Friday night at Skyhawk Field.

Chattanooga is now 1-2-2 overall and the Skyhawks are 1-3-1.

The Mocs jumped on the board early with Jordan Mueller's (Hendersonville, Tenn.) third goal of the year. She got in behind the keeper who had drifted out too far from goal for a shot into an open net at the 3:26 mark of the match.

"We played well and created some really good chances for goals from Jordan and Chloe," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "One came from Jordan who was pressing the ball and caught the keeper out of the net and slotted away."

Chattanooga's second goal would come just as the first half wound down. Freshman Chloe Arnold (Bristol, Tenn.) took a pass from redshirt junior Abby Linder (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and beat her defender to make it 2-0 in the Mocs' favor with just seven seconds remaining in the first half.

"Chloe had a great shot, getting past her defender and shooting from 18 yards out."

Despite outshooting UTC 13-6 in the opening frame, it would be a penalty kick that put the Skyhawks on the board in the second on a hand ball by the Mocs.

Amy McGivern cut the Mocs' lead to 2-1 at the 56:10 mark of the match on a PK. She would connect again in the waning minutes of the game in a crowded box to tie it up in the 88th minute.

"It was a good first half for us," McKinney said. "They were the better team in the second half. They delivered a lot of balls toward the net.

"We stayed resilient, however. We were two and-a-half minutes away from a win when they equalized. Our response was very good. After giving two goals in the second half, we could have been down."

Neither team would find the net in either overtime period with UTM getting an 8-3 shots advantage. Chattanooga keeper Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) made a season-high 12 saves on 42 shots faced. One of her saves was on a penalty kick in the first half.

"Melia was solid," McKinney said of his sophomore keeper. "She had a really great, great game."

The Skyhawks had a 14-6 shots on goal advantage over the Mocs. Catherine Meyer had a team-high four shots with Arnold posting three and Mueller with two, both on goal.

"Their keeper made a fantastic save there on Cat Meyer," McKinney said. "We tried to find a way to possibly win."

The Mocs return home to host Morehead State Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium. The match is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. and admission is FREE.
