CULLOWHEE, N.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga freshman
Chloe Arnold's goal, late in the match, proved to be the game winner as the Mocs defeated Western Carolina 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference women's soccer action.
The Mocs improve to 3-6-2 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play while the Catamounts move to 3-7-1 on the year and 0-2 in league play.
Â
"Hard fought win on the road," Chattanooga head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "Western Carolina is not an easy place to come and get points. They are a hard working team so we are very happy with the result."
Â
Arnold, unassisted, got past the Catamount defense at the 85:37 mark of the match for her third goal of the year and first game winner.
Â
"Chloe took her goal well," McKinney said. "She pinched the ball from an underhit back pass, closed in on the goal and slotted it into the corner."
Â
Chattanooga was outshot 11-5 by WCU, with the Mocs taking three in the second half. Arnold and redshirt freshman
Catherine Meyer each had two shots on the day with one on goal.
Â
Bailey Coppedge, making her fourth start of the season, picked up her second win as well as her second shutout. She had four saves Sunday and sports a 1.00 goals against average on the year.
Â
Western Carolina's leading scorer Sayres McKenna had a game-high four shots with two on goal. Megan McCallister with two shots, one on goal, was the only other Catamount with multiple shots.
Â
"This was a true team win," McKinney said. "We had players really step up and perform."
Â
Chattanooga wraps up its six-game road swing Friday night at Samford. The match is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
