Meyer's Late Goal Lifts Mocs Past Bulldogs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over Alabama A&M Friday evening at Bulldog Field to start a six-game road swing.

Chattanooga improves to 2-3-2 overall and will travel to Georgia State for a 1:00 p.m. matchup. The game was moved up due to the inclement weather forecast for Atlanta later Sunday afternoon. Alabama A&M is still looking for its first win, falling to 0-4 on the year.

"It was a hard fought game against a much improved Alabama A&M side," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "We created some good chances throughout the match and we were unlucky on a few occasions to not find an earlier goal. Cat Meyer scored a great goal for the winner."

Sophomore Jordan Mueller (Hendersonville, Tenn.) set the ball back to redshirt freshman Catherine Meyer (Hendersonville, Tenn.) who separated from a defender and caught it very clean. She shot it from about 20 yards out, sneaking it right under the bar for the score.

The Mocs outshot A&M 11-3 with six shots on goal to none for the Bulldogs. Meyer and freshman Chloe Arnold (Bristol, Tenn.) each had three shots for UTC. Meyer had two on goal and Arnold had one. Mueller and senior McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) each had two shots with Gregg getting a pair on goal and freshman Emily Szymanski (Spring Hill, Tenn.) had one shot.

Sophomore keeper Bailey Coppedge (Collierville, Tenn.) earned her first win and shutout with the Mocs.

"Defensively we are improving and it is always good to get a clean sheet," McKinney said. "We will recover tomorrow and get ourselves ready for another tough match on Sunday against Georgia State."

Chattanooga will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. Due to the match being moved forward, video streaming will no longer be available. A link to live scoring can be found on the women's soccer schedule page of GoMocs.com.
