CULLOWHEE, N.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs (8-13, 4-4 SoCon) volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 18-25) setback on the road at Western Carolina (10-9, 4-4 SoCon) on Saturday afternoon inside the Ramsey Center.
 
Chattanooga falls to 8-13 overall and 4-4 in Southern Conference play. WCU improves to even records, 10-10 overall and a likewise 4-4 mark in the league. Both the Mocs and Catamounts currently sit in a tie for third place in the standings.

MATCH RECAP
Western Carolina 3, Chattanooga 2
Western Carolina opened the match up with a 25-21 victory in the first set before Chattanooga tied things up 1-1 at the break with a 25-19 win in the second. In a pivotal third set, WCU claimed a close 25-23 win and grabbed the match's momentum. The Catamounts rolled to a 25-18win in the fourth to win the match 3-1.
 
Chattanooga recorded more kills (52-51) and a higher hitting percentage (.185-.171) but committed 12 service errors during the match. UTC didn't allow a single WCU block in the match, earning the advantage 8.0 to 0.0. It marks just the third time since 2006 an opponent was held without a block.
 
Three different Mocs recorded double-digit kills including 
Dani Szczepanski, who led the team with 14 at a .344 percentage. 
Mikaela Gauthreaux (11) and 
Gylian Finch (10) both reached double figures while adding two block assists each. Finch completed the double-double by adding 11 digs.
 
Ally Ford totaled six kills and an ace while 
Emily Plumlee chipped in with five kills at a .385 percentage while also adding a solo block and four block assists. 
Jaquelyn Langhaim notched a double-double by dishing out a match-high 42 assists and posting 10 digs.
Defensively, 
Megan Kaufman finished with a team-high 22 digs while 
Miranda Elpers and 
Bailey Bennett added 12 and 10, respectively.

Chattanooga will continue its Southern Conference journey next weekend with a pair of road matches in the state of South Carolina. The Mocs play at Wofford on Friday (Oct. 19) for a 6 p.m. start before heading to Furman on Saturday (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
