Â
CASHIERS, N.C.---The Chattanooga Mocs finished fifth Tuesday at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate. The Mocs ended with an 846 total at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley, the best 54-hole number since turning in 841 at the 2009 Administaff ASU Invitational.
Â
The squad closed with level-par 284. That was led by
Oliver Simonsen's 2-under 69.
Will Porter shot 70 with
Lake Johnson (72) and
Etienne Brault (73) rounding out the counting scores.
Alex Cobb's 77 was the drop tally, while
Leon Bader and
Moritz Lammel ended play as individuals with 72 and 75, respectively.
Â
Simonsen tied for second overall. His 8-under 205 was two off the pace set by Georgia Southern's Steven Fisk at 203. Brault tied for 10th at 5 under. Bader just missed ending up in the top 30 in his first collegiate action with a 1-over 214 tying for 33rd.
Â
Simonsen dueled with Fisk down the stretch in a quest for a second straight win. A birdie on the 16th got the Chattanooga-area native within a stroke of the lead at 8 under. He narrowly missed birdie at 17 to tie it up before Fisk's birdie on the last provided the final margin.
Â
Chattanooga turned in five par or better rounds in the last six. That's good for a 19-under total averaging 282.83 over that span.
Â
Georgia Southern won the event with 822 firing 272 over the final 18. Morehead State's 271 pushed the Eagles into second at 835. Florida Atlantic (843), Wofford (846) and Chattanooga round out the top 5.

QUOTABLE
"We played well the first round, but couldn't get enough done the next two. There were a lot of chances to score, but we just didn't take advantage. There were some bright spots out there, but not enough to do what we came here to do." – Coach
Mark Guhne
Â
"We showed a lot of progress over the last six rounds. This team is showing a glimpse of the potential it has...we'll get back to work and be ready to go at the Autotrader." – Guhne
