Mocs Drop SoCon Match at Furman

Chattanooga volleyball fell in three sets for a second-straight night after Furman completed a clean sweep on its home court Saturday night.

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs (8-15, 4-6 SoCon) volleyball team is still in search of its first true road win of the season after falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20) at Furman (9-12, 5-5 SoCon) in Greenville, S.C., on Saturday evening.
 
UTC drops to 8-15 overall and 4-6 in Southern Conference play following the loss. Furman improves to 9-12 and an even 5-5 in league action. The Mocs currently sit in a tie for fifth place in the latest SoCon standings.
 
Chattanooga has yet to capture a true road victory in the 2018 season, falling in ten chances after earning a neutral site win in the season opener against Belmont (Knoxville). SoCon-member schools have combined for a 52-18 (.743) in home matches this season in comparison to a 17-59 (.224) mark in road contests.

Furman 3, Chattanooga 0
Furman led the first set 20-19 before rolling on a 5-1 run from that point to earn a 25-20 win and a 1-0 lead in the match. The Paladins broke the second set open with ten unanswered points in route to a 25-14 victory before finishing off the match sweep with a 25-20 win in the third.
 
For the second-straight match, the Chattanooga offense was limited to low efficiency numbers and forced into higher rates of errors. UTC's kill total reached 30 at a .107 hitting percentage while Furman recorded 45 kills at a .274 clip.
 
Gylian Finch led the team with six kills while adding ten digs and two block assists. Emily Plumlee (.500) and Ally Ford (0.56) followed with five kills each. Jaquelyn Langhaim dished out 25 assists while recording seven digs and a solo block.
 
Dani Szczepanski finished with four kills and three block assists while Mikaela Gauthreaux ended with three kills, two digs, and both a solo block and block assist. Brianna Anderson concluded with four kills and Sarah Root picked up two kills on six total attacks while adding two block assists, all coming in the third set.
 
Brenna Everingham, making her first start at the libero position, posted a team-high 16 digs to set a new season high for three-set matches. Megan Kaufman added four digs and Miranda Elpers chipped in with three.
