Tom Arth, Head Coach
On handling the bye week after win over WCU.
"We had a great week last week. It was a good opportunity for our team to get some rest that we needed. We had a number of guys that have been banged up throughout the season and have missed games. Last week came at a great time for us, it was much needed. I think our players benefited greatly from being able to take some hitting off of them early in the week. It also allowed our younger guys to get an opportunity to get out there and have some meaningful practice reps."
Â
On upcoming game against VMI.
"VMI is an impressive team, we have a big challenge ahead of us. Watching them on film, they are a much improved team from last season. They play extremely hard and never stop, they're relentless. They put up a lot of offensive numbers and score a lot of points. They throw the ball all over the field with a great quarterback. They have two of the top wide receivers in the league and some very capable running backs that they use. They do some things that will give us problems so we need to be prepared."
On what homecoming means to a program.
"Homecoming is special when you're at a special place. When you're at a great school where your alumni have had such great experiences that they come back. And coming back means something to them. This is a place where our alumni is incredibly involved and so loyal, passionate about our school and programs. It means something to them, that's why they come back. It's great for our players to see that and how former athletes continually return year-after-year to campus. Being a part of a community like UTC, with so many proud alums that come back and support our school, it lets you know that you're a part of something much greater than yourself."

On exceeding personal expectations.
"Coming into the season I just wanted to start. I wanted to play more than I did last year and I felt I was going to get that opportunity. So when I started in the first game, it just kind of took off. I would have never expected this year to go the way it has."
On VMI this weekend.
"They are a good team and have some good players. Coach [Arth] has emphasized that they can put up a lot of points. So, our offense needs to do that as well and I know our defense will get the job done on the other side of the ball."Â
On mood after this year's bye week.
"It is a lot easier as a player to come in week after week and practice the way we do. Last year, we practiced to win every game and we weren't winning any games. We aren't winning every game, but we are in contention for a championship so it does make what we do every day a little easier."

Isaiah Mack, Sr.-DL
On bye week activities.
"I use the time to recover and get away from football for a sense. Most of use try to recover so it is nice."
On facing a pass-heavy VMI team.
"I mean it is different, running you have to play so physical and get in their face so we can try to make a play on the ball. In our league, you don't see a lot of passing teams like Samford and VMI. So when we see them on our schedule, we can't wait to play against that style."
On correct formula that helps win games.
"I think it is just being consistent and making the play in front of you. I think that is what most of this is, when you are called on, you have to be consistent and make the play. Not just making the big plays, you have to also make the small plays consistently."
