Postgame Quotes vs. VMI

Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
VMI at Chattanooga – Homecoming
Finley Stadium – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Saturday – Oct. 27, 2018

Head Coach Tom Arth
On the slow start to the game:
"Let me start out by saying, I think I said it earlier in the week.  I think the coaches at VMI are doing an incredible job.  I have so much respect for them, so much respect for their players, their team.  They are a good football team.

"Sometimes, I said it before, stats can lie to you.  Records can lie to you.  That is the best 0-7, 0-8 team that I have ever seen. They got it going, they are going to get it going.  I just have to give a lot of credit to them, their coaches and their players.  The way that they play, the way that they fight.  When they need to make a play, they make a play.  We saw that all season long on tape, countless times."

On the defensive adjustments in the second quarter:
"We made some adjustments in personnel.  We made some adjustments in some of the calls.  We got to some more three-down and played a little bit more zone.  We were losing some one-on-one matchups. We had to do some different things to keep them off balance and put ourselves in a better position to be successful."

On the play of Jordan Jones:
"The way they were attacking us in the slot, I think Jordan was our best option, from a coverage standpoint.  He did a great job blitzing and coming off the edge."

"Defensively, we didn't; create a ton of takeaways, but the ball was on the ground often.  We had opportunities to get it often.  That is the nature of this game.  If you are out there trying to play for a takeaway and looking to get an interception, looking to force a fumble, you are going to miss a tackle or blow a coverage.  We did a good job playing in our technique and getting the ball on the ground.  Unfortunately, we just didn't come up with as many of them as we had the opportunity to."

On the play of Isaiah Mack:
"Clearly, there we a lot of opportunities for Isaiah today with the number of passes that VMI threw.  He is just doing a really good job of rushing the quarterback.  It is a real selfless was to rush."

On the play of Alex Trotter:
"He came in and popped a big one for the first touchdown in his career, which I can't believe.  He has had such a great career.  He is such a reliable player for our team and I am really happy for him.  It was a very important touchdown to help us secure that win.

On getting a win on Homecoming:
"It is critical.  We are so fortunate to be a part of a University and a football program that has so much tradition and alumni that have so much pride in their school and so much pride in this program."

Jordan Jones, So.-DB
On this game week:
"It was a big challenge. The coaches they gave us a game plan, and we had to come out and execute. We started off slow, but by half time we got into it."

On the struggle in the first quarter:
"I understand we were off that week, but we had to have an excellent practice on the bye week. That really helped us. We needed that first quarter to get back inside the swing of things. Everything started to flow after that."

Bryce Nunnelly, So.-WR
On offensive effort:
"We didn't start off how we wanted to but I felt like offence bounced back well. Especially after that pick 6. We came back and scored the next drive. We were tied at half time 21-21. Thought that was huge. The defense comes and plays lights out essentially the whole second half until that last drive. I thought we rallied well and fought back."

On no panic down two TDs early:
"No panic at all. We've been in that situation before. We've been in that situation when we practice. I don't feel like there was any panic on the sideline. We knew what we had to do and we went and did it."

Nick Tiano, Jr.-QB
On the bounce back from the early deficit:
"It was good for us. We got in hole. It was good for us to come back from that and help the defense out a little bit. It feels like a lot of times this season, they have been holding for us. For us to come back and get in the rhythm there was useful for us."

On not panicking:
"Those guys they are going to get it figured out. For us, we have play makers everywhere. We can score quick. We knew once we got in a rhythm, it is tough to stop us."
