GREENSBORO, N.C.---The Chattanooga Mocs are in fifth-place after 36 holes today at the Grandover Collegiate. The Mocs turned in scores of 295 and 296 on a wet East Course tract at the Grandover Resort.
 
The big story for the Mocs was sophomore Connor Nolan. The good news is he posted his career-best 18 and 36-hole totals. The bad news is he did it as an individual.
 
Nolan opened with 5-under 67. He shot 75 over the second 18 for a 2-under tally of 142. That's tied for second with three others, six behind individual leader Nick Lyerly of UNCG whose twin 68s put him a 8-under 136.
 
Chattanooga is in fifth, five ahead of Michigan State at 596. Oliver Simonsen paced the team effort at 1-over 145. He's tied for 13th, one clear of Lake Johnson's 146 which is tied for 17th.
 
Simonsen and Johnson led the way in the morning 18 with level-par 72s. Dominic Jones and Will Porter contributed 75 and 76, respectively. Porter had the low round of the afternoon with 72. Simonsen had 73 with Johnson at 74. Etienne Brault rounded out the counting cards with 77.
 
UNCG leads at 571. That's seven ahead of Penn State in second with 578. Northwestern (580) and Liberty (584) are in front of the Mocs in third and fourth.
 
There are eight total UTC student-athletes in the field. Joining Nolan as individuals are freshmen Moritz Lammel and Leon Bader. Lammel is tied for 30th at 149 with cards of 73 and 76. Bader shot 162.

• Despite the dip in scoring today, the team is still 11 under over last 11 rounds. Seven par or better scores over that stretch.
• 67 by Nolan is the seventh-best 18 by a Moc this season. He's the fourth to shoot 67 over better joining Simonsen (4 times), Porter and Brault.
• 15 birdies in both rounds by the counting cards. Makes six rounds of 15 or more this season.
