Mocs Downed by The Citadel, 3-0

Chattanooga volleyball suffered a straight-set sweep to The Citadel in a match that featured 34 ties scores and 14 lead changes.

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 29-27, 29-27), to Southern Conference-member The Citadel Bulldogs on Friday evening inside Maclellan Gymnasium.
 
Chattanooga dropped its third-straight SoCon match after starting the league slate with a pair of wins on the opening weekend. UTC moves to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
 
The Citadel improves to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in SoCon action. The win marks the Bulldogs first over the Mocs in the last 29 meetings. Citadel's three conference wins are the most for the program since 2004.

The Citadel jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the opening set before rolling to a 25-22 set victory to lead the match 1-0. Sets two and three proved to be back-and-forth thrillers, each extending beyond the 25-point mark. The Bulldogs claimed a pair of 29-27 victories to earn a 3-0 sweep over the Mocs.
 
Chattanooga was out-killed by a 51-42 margin and attacked at a slightly less efficient percentage, .262-.227. The Bulldogs finished with 57 digs and 46 assists in comparison to the Mocs 51 and 37 totals.
 
Dani Szczepanski finished with nine kills at a .400 hitting percentage, marking the fifth match this season with at least nine kills at a .400 or better clip. She also posted two service aces, a solo block and three block assists.
 
Gylian Finch (12) and Ally Ford (11) each recorded double-digit kills. Finch added a service ace and three digs while Ford chipped in with two digs and solo block. Jaquelyn Langhaim posted the Mocs only double-double of the night, totaling 31 assists and 10 digs in the defeat. It marks her eighth double-double of the season, seventh of the assist-dig variety.
 
Defensively, Bailey Bennett paced the team and set a new career-high with 13 digs while adding a service ace and an assist. Megan Kaufman followed with 12 digs and four digs for UTC.
