Postgame Quotes vs. Wofford

Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
No. 6 Wofford at Chattanooga
Finley Stadium – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Saturday – Oct. 6, 2018

Head Coach Tom Arth
On Wofford's first two possessions:
"I think early on in the game, we struggled to get stops. They went down the field pretty effortlessly on their first two possessions. From there, I think we really made some adjustments on the defensive side. We were able to get a number of stops. I think we played really well throughout the second quarter and third quarter. Other than the one big run touchdown in the second half, I thought we played really well defensively."

Thoughts on the big turnover in the fourth quarter:
"It was a great job by our defense getting the take away. We had an opportunity there. Good field position and opportunity to go and take the lead in the game. Unfortunately we did not execute offensively in that situation and we had to punt."

On tonight's offense:
"I think we didn't run the ball as well as we'd hoped. We came out in the second half and got a couple of runs, which was good. I thought we'd be able to continue to run it. Unfortunately, we struggled to do that. I think that's something that has plagued us. It hurt us last week, and it certainly hurt us again this week. We have to be better there."

Does not being able to run the ball these past two weeks concern you:
"It's very concerning that we haven't run the ball the past couple of weeks. It's something we pride ourselves in as an offense. The way we play offensively…running the ball is important. It doesn't mean we have to come out and run it two-thirds of our snaps, but we have to be able to run it."

Brandon Dowdell – So.-DB
Thoughts on tonight's defense:
"We preformed pretty good. Obviously it wasn't enough. It was a team effort. We can't only give credit to one side. As a team, we lost and it's a hard pill to swallow. Defensively, we have to make some improvements. We have to tackle better. At the end of the day it's a team effort."

"Practice and execution equals the greatest reality. We have to do a better job finishing at practice in all three phases. Focus is a part of it also. We just have to finish better and hopefully we can start putting some games together."

Will Young – Sr.-WR
Thoughts on coming out of the gates strong today:
"It was long drive. It took a lot of time off the clock. We easily had all of the momentum early in the game. They came back down and scored and we still had another solid drive and ended up kicking the field goal. After that it went down hill. I don't where the momentum went. We failed to execute after that."

On Wofford's possession time:
"I looked and saw they definitely had control of time of possession. That hurts our defense. Our defense bailed us out plenty of times. We have to find a way to help them. We didn't do that today."

Nick Tiano – Sr.-QB
"You know that coming into these games with these triple option teams. Especially Wofford. They are great at it. We put the defense on the field too much. It wore those guys down. They did a great job though; 21 points. We have to score more than that anyways."

On struggling to get the run game on track:
"We have to keep trusting it. That stuff is going to open up . We have to keep pounding it and finding ways to keep getting better. It all starts in practice. We just have to come back ready to get better this week and go get a win."

Michael Bean – Jr.-LB
Initial thoughts after tonight's game:
"It's really tough going through a game like this preparing all week and going through the scheme every day.  I don't think we executed on every unit, special teams, offense, defense like we should have. We gave up too many big plays. It came down to that and if it wasn't for that we would have a different outcome."

On tonight's defense:
"We did come out slow. We came out of our locker room slow an maybe a little lethargic. I think after that we picked everything up, came together and really battled. We kept fighting the whole time."
