Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C.

UTC brings a 6-2 overall record and is in third place in the SoCon with a 4-2 league mark.  Furman is 3-4 overall, but still in the race with a 3-2 conference tally.  The Paladins are the only team to hang a SoCon loss on conference co-leader Wofford (6-2, 5-1 SoCon).

ETSU is also tied atop the league standings (7-2, 5-1 SoCon).  Mercer (4-4, 3-2 SoCon) and Samford (4-4, 3-2 SoCon) are tied with Furman in fourth place in the conference. Samford hosts No. 8 Wofford this weekend, while Mercer welcomes No. 22 ETSU to Macon, Ga.  Both games are on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Chattanooga is coming off a 34-27 win over VMI on Homecoming on Oct. 27.  The victory solidified a winning season for head coach Tom Arth, who is in his second season at UTC.  Furman rallied from a 17-14 deficit in the final 10 minutes to win at The Citadel, 28-17, last weekend.  They have won three of their last four games, after opening the season with three straight losses.

Chattanooga is still receiving votes in both the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top 25.  The Mocs are three spots outside of the Coaches Top 25 with 12 votes and four places away from being ranked in the STATS poll with 165 votes.

Western Carolina entered into the Oct. 13 game leading the SoCon and No. 19 in the FCS in scoring at 35.8 points per game.  UTC kept the Catamounts out of the end zone for the first time in four years in a 26-6 win.  Chattanooga held WCU to a season-low 238 yards of total offense (82 rush / 121 pass).

VMI brought a vaunted passing attack to the Homecoming game last week.  The Keydets were No. 3 in the nation, averaging 343 passing yards per game before face the Mocs.  UTC held them to just 313 yards in the air and -16 on the ground in the 34-27 win.

He posted three of the UTC's seven sacks on the day and finished with a career-best 4.0 tackles-for-loss.  The three sacks were also a career mark and just a ½ shy of the school record.

MOCS ARE HISTORICALLY STRONG IN THE REDZONE
UTC currently leads the SoCon and is No. 6 in the FCS in red zone defense (65.5% - 19/29).  The Mocs have made 10 stops when backed inside their own 20-yard line, including two last time out against Western Carolina.  Chattanooga only had six all of last year and just five in 2016.  The last time they had 10 or more in a season was in 2005 when they had 12 (38-50 – 76%).

COOPER LEADS THE MOCS DEFENSE
Junior LB Marshall Cooper was the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after posting eight tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in a 27-20 win over No. 17 Samford on Sept. 22.  His interception came as Samford was trailing by two scores but driving deep in Chattanooga territory in the fourth quarter.  The 41-yard return flipped the field for the Mocs. Cooper also added a pass breakup in the game.  Cooper is currently second in the SoCon and No. 41 in the FCS with 8.8 tackles per game.

Cooper has twice stopped a team on the goal line.  He forced a fumble on the one-yard line against Wofford.  He also recovered a fumble in the same situation at Western Carolina.

TURNOVER TURNAROUND
Through eight games, the Mocs are +7 in turnover margin.  That leads the SoCon and is No. 13 in the FCS.  That is a dramatic difference than a year ago when UTC was -12 in that category, 8th in the SoCon and 113th in the FCS.  UTC is second in the SoCon (31st in the FCS) with seven fumbles recovered.  The Mocs lead in the league (21st in the FCS) with 10 interceptions.  UTC is one of 16 teams in the FCS to throw four picks or less on the year.  The Mocs have also lost only six fumbles, three at ETSU.  Chattanooga is second in the SoCon and No. 21 in the FCS in total takeaways with 17.

MACK & MAHAFFEY CONTROLLING THE MIDDLE
Defensive linemen don't typically put up big numbers when it comes to making tackles.  However, that is not the case with UTC's senior duo of Derek Mahaffey and Isaiah Mack.  Mack and Mahaffey are currently second and third on the team with 60 and 52 tackles, respectively.  They each have posted 10+ tackles twice in a game, led by Mack's 16 at The Citadel.  Mahaffey set his career mark with 11 of his own against the Bulldogs.

TIANO ALSO PUTTING UP IMPRESSIVE NUMBERs
Junior QB Nick Tiano is 170-272 passing for 2,113 yards and 14 touchdowns against only four interceptions.  He needs five yards to pass Jacob Huesman's 2015 total of 2,117 for 10th most in a season at UTC.  He could move up to seventh place with another 200-yard passing game.  The full list is on page 9 of the .pdf of the game notes.

Tiano has also run 56 times for 199 yards and one score, giving him 2,312 yards of total offense this season.  He needs 31 yards of total offense to pass Kenyon Earl (2,342 - 1993) for 10th most in a season at UTC and could move up to eighth with another 100-yard game.

Tiano is 15th in the FCS and fourth in the SoCon in total offense (289.0) through eight games.  He is third in the league and No. 14 in the FCS in passing yards (264.1).  Other SoCon/FCS rankings include 4th/27th with 14 passing TDs, 3rd/16th in completions per game (21.3) and 3rd/28th in completion percentage (62.5%).

Tiano was the first Moc to throw back-to-back 300-yard games since B.J. Coleman against Furman (432) and Elon (386) in 2010.  He also had the most passing yards in the first two games of the season since Chris Sanders threw for 358 at Samford and 367 at Louisville in 1999.  His 347 yards against The Citadel were the most in a game since Jacob Huesman had 359 against Mercer in a 38-31 win on Oct. 25, 2014.  His 318 passing against TTU were the most in a season opener since B.J. Coleman had 340 vs. No. 3 Appalachian State on Sept. 4, 2010.

TYRELL PRICE GIVES THE MOCS A VERSATILE RUNNING ATTACK
Junior RB Tyrell Price had season highs with 135 rushing yards on 29 carries at Western Carolina.  It was the most carries in a game since Jacob Huesman had 31 against No. 21 Indiana State in the FCS Playoffs on Dec. 6, 2014.

Price is currently seventh in the SoCon with 70.9 rushing yards per game.  He is third in the SoCon and 20th in the FCS with nine rushing TDs.  He is seventh in the league in scoring (8.8) and third in total TDs (10 - 20th in FCS).  He also leads the SoCon with 154 rushing attempts.
