CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga got off to a slow start and fell 73-50 to Central Michigan Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Cavalier Classic at John Paul Jones Arena. Chattanooga is now 4-3 overall and the Chippewas are 5-1 on the year.
 
"We started out strong," Chattanooga head coach Katie Burrows said. "We couldn't hit some shots, but we were doing some good things on the defensive end." It is always easier when you are making shots, so we have to learn how to grind when we are not.
 
"We have to work on things that we have been saying we need to work on since Day One. Our team defense was not there today."
 
The Mocs were 20-of-57 from the field against the Chippewas but made just 4-of-18 from beyond the arc.
 
Lakelyn Bouldin led the Mocs with 10 points, scoring in double figures for the sixth time in seven games this season. She was 2-of-6 from long distance and grabbed three rebounds. She entered Chattanooga's career chart for 3-pointers made with 139, passing Tenisha Townsend (2008-12) on the list.
 
Arianne Whitaker, in 16 minutes on the court, scored nine points and had four rebounds in just her second game back. She was 5-of-8 from the free throw line and had two assists. Brooke Burns was 3-of-6 from the field with a 3-pointer for eight points. Rochelle Lee and Bria Dial had a team-best five rebounds each.
 
Central Michigan started the game on a 13-3 run and led the Mocs 19-9 after the first quarter. Chattanooga shot just 28.6 percent in the opening frame but was able to step it up in the second quarter making 6-of-16. The Chippewas shot 60 percent in the second period and led the Mocs 41-23 at halftime.
 
Chattanooga was able to get back two points to start the third quarter, but CMU behind eight points from Presley Hudson, went on a 16-0 run for its largest lead of the game, 62-30, with 26 seconds remaining in the frame.
 
Hudson led all scorers with 22 points making 4-of-8 from long range. She was 9-of-20 and added four assists and five steals.
 
"The Hudson kid, she is fun to watch," Burrows said. "I didn't enjoy watching her today because she was working us. She has deep range, but she can also put the ball on the floor. She posed a challenge so we tried to put some length on her. We held her under her average, but not by much."
 
The Mocs outscored the Chippewas 18-11 in the final frame as each team played their reserves. Burrows cleared her bench for the third straight game.
 
Kelly Micaela had 16 points and seven rebounds with four assists. Kyra Bussell got big minutes off the bench with Jahari Smith in early foul trouble. She had 14 points and was 8-of-14 from the free throw line and grabbed seven rebounds. Reyna Frost was the fourth Chippewa player in double digits with 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Mocs Club is participating in #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The athletics fund-raising arm is beginning its "Drive for 25" campaign on #GivingTuesday. The campaign aims to raise $25,000 in scholarship funds for UTC student-athletes to which an anonymous donor has generously agreed to match.
 
Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely-recognized Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, which includes holiday and end-of-year giving.
