Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Furman
Paladin Stadium – Greenville, S.C.
Saturday - Nov. 3, 2018
Head Coach Tom Arth
Overall thoughts on the game:
"We had multiple opportunities in the early part of the game that we didn't take advantage of. We didn't play well enough. I thought, defensively, we kind of got things figured out and played a great game. To hold a team and an offense like that to 16 points is really good.
"We were down in there and had opportunities to score. Just missed. Just missed on a few opportunities. Just missed on a couple of conversions. You can't beat a good football team when you hurt yourself. We had a number of self-inflicted wounds early on in the game. Drop passes, things like that. It is just hard to overcome that against a team like that."
On not scoring on the first two drive:
"Putting points on the board would have been outstanding. There was certainly an opening, we just didn't do it."Â
On keeping the defense engaged in a tight game:
"Just keep fighting. We are able to hold them to a field goal a number of times. They were taking some time off the clock, and we had opportunities. We got the ball on the ground and had some near interceptions. Those guys were playing their hearts out and leaving it all on the field. They were giving us opportunities, repeatedly. Unfortunately, we didn't get some of those turnovers they thought we had. Ultimately, we have to be able to put more points on the board."
Nick Tiano – Jr.-QB
Thoughts on the game:
"We never quit. The defense never gave up on us. They fought hard all of the way to the end. We have to score more than 10 points to help those guys out. They played a great game today. This team never quit."
On getting the ball back after Furman's fumble:
"It is incredible. Knowing they were going to run the ball and be tough to get it back, the defense made a play. They gave us another opportunity, we were able to score and give us a chance with the on-side kick."
On the play of Bryce Nunnelly getting to 1,000 in a season:
"There could not be a better guy. Bryce is one of the best people I know. He works his tail off every single day. You never see him take a day off. He never takes a play off, a rep off, in the weight room on the field, anything. It couldn't happen to a better guy or more talented guy. I am so proud of him and luck to be a part of it and throw the ball to him."
Michael Bean – Jr.-LB
The play of the defense:
"It is a real grind. They had a few really long drives. We gave up some big third down and fourth down plays, but we never gave up. We had a few plays here and there that changed the game, but our fight was relentless."Â
On the turnovers:
"That was huge by
Ian Hayes when he came down right after the half and caused the big-time fumble and gave it back to our offense. The big-time play at the end that set up our offense with Tavon causing that big fumble. We had a few more that I thought could go our way, but sometimes they don't."
