CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team (9-18, 5-9 SoCon) fought off a vicious comeback from The Citadel (10-16, 4-10 SoCon) to earn a 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 15-25, 15-9) win on Saturday afternoon inside McAlister Fieldhouse in Charleston, S.C.

The win snaps a six-match skid for UTC as they improve to 9-18 overall and 5-9 in SoCon play and marks the first road win of the season. The Citadel falls to 10-16 overall and 4-10 in the league.

After making it a focus in the off-season, Chattanooga improved to a perfect 4-0 in five-set matches in 2018. A season ago, the Mocs went 1-7 in such contests.

Chattanooga 3, The Citadel 2
Chattanooga opened the match with a 2-0 lead after claiming wins in the first two sets by 25-21 and 25-20 scores. The Citadel stormed back to earn a pair of convincing wins in the third and fourth frames, 25-18 and 25-15, respectively. UTC buckled down in the fifth and cruised to a 15-9 decision to win the match 3-2.

Chattanooga was out-numbered on offense by The Citadel, totaling 12 less kills (60-48) and a less efficient attacking percentage (.261-.241), but did win the aces category (8-6). UTC committed seven less attacking errors (23-16) for the match and attacked at a combined .336 percentage in the three winning sets.

Gylian Finch (15) and
Ally Ford (14) combined for 29 of the team's 48 kills and combined to attack at a .287 clip. Ford, who leads the SoCon in aces per set entering the weekend, finished with three aces and marked her fourth match this season with at least three.

Jaquelyn Langhaim once again filled up the stat sheet after finishing with six kills, 24 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Maddie Halsey helped direct the offense with 18 assists, the third time she has totaled 18 dimes in the last four matches, and nearly missed a double-double after registering nine digs.

Dani Szczepanski and Mikaela Gauthreax each ended up with five kills and combined for three total blocks.
Maia Rackel added three kills at a .333 percentage to help aid the offensive efforts.

Defensively, the Mocs posted 56 digs as a team with two players reaching double figures.
Brenna Everingham led the team with 13 digs and added a pair of aces while
Miranda Elpers chipped in with 11 digs.
