Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Georgia State
GSU Sports Arena – Atlanta, Ga.
Wednesday – December 12, 2018
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
On Georgia State's style of play.
"They attacked the rim aggressively. Our help defense was a little late and that was a big part of it. As a general rule, our help was just late. It's also tough to win giving up 95 points. That wasn't our mentality coming in, it wasn't to try and outscore them. You have to recognize who you're playing against and they're comfortable playing that way. We have to do a better job defensively."
On missing a couple would-be momentum changing shots.
"We had a couple shots that we missed when we really needed them. We had a couple times where we had a three that would have been a big three from a momentum standpoint. It was only three points but it would have meant more to them than to us. We could have really used those shots and they were missed opportunities so to speak."
On athletic mismatches.
"Our problem was that the guys who were most effective for us in the post, had mismatches on the defensive end. We were trading layups for layups. You can't really do that and expect to win the game. They also shot the ball well from three, too. We needed them to not shoot as well. But, we did some good things, and they're a good team. They are an NCAA Tournament team with a great coach and really good athletes. It came down to who can impose their will and they made athleticism more of a factor. They made the basketball abilities and physicalities more effective."
On what could have been different.
"We could have attacked more. I thought we had some times where we could have drove and attacked but we kicked it out. We had some good looks at three. We had some that were unguarded and we needed to knock those down. We also needed to make more stops on defense. It was hard because they're so quick. It was hard for our bigger guys to seal defensively and that hurt us a little bit."
Kevin Easley, Fr.-F
On what to do moving forward.
"We need to just play hard and compete. This game showed we can compete with anyone. Georgia State is a great team. We competed out there and just fell short."
On offensive successes & what to take heading to Ole Miss on Sunday.
"We were moving the ball, moving and cutting, that was big time. I think it got away from us late in the second half, but that's a lesson to learn. We're a young team. We just have to live and learn out there. Coaches are proud of us for competing. That's a good team we played and things will carry over for us on Sunday."
Jonathan Scott, Jr.-G/F
On what hot shooting performances mean over the last few games.
"It's helping me get my confidence back. It's so important. Staying in the gym has been the most important thing to me, getting 500 or more shots up. It's brought my confidence back and I just need to keep doing what I'm doing. My teammates will find me because they believe in me."
