ATHENS, Ga---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team worked its way around the Athens Country Club shooting 602 over 36 holes amid windy and wet conditions. That provided UTC with a blustery sixth-place finish.
The Mocs total was one clear of Iowa in eighth. Francis Marion and Gardner-Webb rounded out the top 10. Wofford ended up 11th, while Western Carolina tied for 12th.
Junior
Lake Johnson led the effort with a 3-over 147. The tied for 16th, one ahead
Etienne Brault in 20th at 148.
Andrew Weathers shot 152 with
Luke Long and
Will Porter one stroke apart at 155 and 156, respectively.
The day began the right way with three birdies on the par 5 sixth hole, the opener in a shotgun start. The quintet was still E through their fifth hole before a birdie drought lasted 10 holes before a trio – Johnson, Porter and Brault – broke through on three. They dropped 17 shots over that span before ending the morning 18 in 10th at 304.
They turned it around in the afternoon. Johnson and Brault shot matching 73s to pace the team's 298. It came with a slower start, but steadier play overall. UTC shot 5-over on both its nines.
No. 17 Arkansas ran away with the team title shooting nine under. That was 17 better than the second-place duo of Georgia and Kennesaw State at +8. The Razorbacks shared medalist honors between Alvaro Ortiz and Luis Garza with 3-under 141.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
- The event plays a unique format with all five team members playing in the same group.
- Johnson played par or better on 30 of his 36 holes (83.3%) with four birdies and 26 pars. He entered the tourney second to Phillip Hickam (11.20) in pars per 18 raising his average from 10.72 to 10.95.
- Brault's eagle was his team-best fourth of the year. Well third, one of his four was a double-eagle in the first round of the AutoTrader Collegiate.

It's a quick turnaround for the Mocs. They return to the tee Sunday at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Ga. The three-day, 54-hole event concludes Tuesday, March 20. It's played on the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation.
