Women’s Golf is in Mexico for Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational

Cristina Perez and the Chattanooga Mocs tackle a strong field in this weekend’s Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is back on the course this weekend at the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico. The El Tigre Golf Club hosts the 12-team field that includes two top 20 programs and a total of nine among the top 100 in country.
The Mocs flipped the switch from fall to the spring schedules. At the season's turn, the ladies averaged 300.08 through 15 cards. In the first six of 2018, they've posed a 294.00 scoring average tying for third at the Moon Golf Invitational and ending up runner-up last time out at the North Florida Collegiate.
Senior Megan Woods spear-headed those efforts along with junior Monica San Juan. Woods tallied top 10s in the last two events tying for eighth in the first followed by tying for sixth at UNF. It marked the first back-to-back top 10s by a Moc since Emily McLennan '16 in October 2015.
Woods holds a slim lead over San Juan this semester in scoring. Woods has a 72.5 stroke average since the calendar flipped, while San Juan comes in at 73.0. Senior Cristina Perez's 74.39 over the full six events tops the squad.
The tournament starts with 36 holes Monday followed by a final 18 Tuesday. Links to live scoring and pairings are available on GoMocs.com's women's golf schedule page when available. - UTC had one top 10 finish in the fall with Perez tying for 10th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate before the three to open the spring slate.
- The last time the Mocs played outside the U.S. borders was also Mexico at the Wildcat Invitation in Puerto Penasco in February 2009.
