Women’s Golf is Back to the Tee this Weekend at LSU

Monica San Juan and the Chattanooga Mocs head to Baton Rouge, La., for the three-day, 54-hole LSU Tiger Golf Classic.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team returns to the tee this weekend in Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event starts Friday at the University Club.
The Mocs are making their first foray in the event. Duke swept team and medalist honors (Leona Maguire) a year ago. The 12-team field features one top 25 opponent – No. 25 Virginia – four top 50 and eight total ranked in the top 100 including Chattanooga.
The strong field presents a challenge for one recent streak. The Mocs have placed at least one in the top 10 in the three team events this spring, with a different culprit each time.
Monica San Juan and Megan Woods got it started at the Moon Golf Invite tying for second and eighth, respectively, in February. Woods repeated the effort the next time out tying for sixth at the UNF Collegiate. Last weekend, Cristina Perez tied for ninth at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational.
This is the penultimate regular season event with only the Brickyard Collegiate (April 8-10), two weeks later, prior to the Southern Conference Championships, April 15-17. It runs Friday through Sunday with 18 holes per day. Check out live scoring, pairings and tournament notes at the links above.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
- Four of the six top 10s by Mocs this season came since the calendar flipped to 2018. San Juan started it with back-to-back runners-up (one individual event) and then Woods' back-to-back top 10s. Now it's Perez's turn after tying for ninth last time out.
- Sticking with the spring theme, San Juan's average finish in the fall? 39.0. Spring? 11.0.
- Perez's career-high 44 pars at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational led the tournament and was a season best by a Moc topping San Juan's season-opening 43 at the Mason Rudolph.
