Women’s Golf Heads to Jacksonville for UNF Collegiate

Maddy McDanel and the Chattanooga Mocs are off to Florida for the spring’s second start, the UNF Collegiate.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs got the spring started right in Melbourne, Fla., at the Moon Golf Invitational. They'll try to build on that momentum a couple of hours north in Jacksonville at the UNF Collegiate.
The Mocs bested seven of the 10 top 100 teams in the field tying for third at Duran Golf Club. Junior Monica San Juan led that way tying for second. It was her second runner-up finish of the spring.
San Juan is 5 under through 72 holes since the calendar turned to 2018. She leads the squad with a 74.50 stroke average, just ahead of senior Cristina Perez at 74.60.
Senior Megan Woods is next at 75.13. She shaved more than half-stroke off her average with a top 10 in Melbourne tying her career-low tourney total of 2-over 218. Holly Morgan (76.25) and Maddy McDanel (77.60) round out the starting lineup.

- 36 birdies on the counting cards at the Moon Golf Invite was a season high. Most since recording 43 in the 2015 Pinehurst Challenge (Oct. 12-13).
- San Juan matched the nation's No. 9-ranked golfer in Furman's Natalie Srinivasan at the Moon Golf Invite. She beat six ranked in the top 100, as did Woods.
- Perez leads the squad in par 3 (3.13) and 5 (4.95) scoring, while San Juan paces the par 4 (4.14) effort.
