RESULTS

NASHVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs closed strong at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate Tuesday. The Mocs 286 was the second-best score on the day, one behind hosts Lipscomb's 285.

That propelled UTC three more spots on the leaderboard into third, one ahead of Memphis in fourth with a final tally of 874. Luke Long scorched Richland Country Club with a 5-under 66 supported by Will Porter at 72, Etienne Brault with 73 and Lake Johnson's 75.

Long climbed 12 spots to claim a spot in the top 5. His level-par 213 proved to be the fifth-best score, five shots off the pace. He got the day started well playing the opening five at 1 under. Double bogey on the par 3 sixth and two pars had the sophomore at 1 over through eight.

He took off from there. Birdies on nine and 10, holing out for eagle on the par 4 13th followed by two more birdies provided a 6-under stretch over seven holes. He parred out for the 66.

Johnson missed the top 10 by a single shot tying for 12th at 219. Porter finished with 223, three clear of Andrew Weathers' 229. Brault rounded out the starter totals with 233. Individuals Phillip Hickam, Oliver Simonsen and Connor Nolan turned in 229, 230 and 233, respectively.

Rice claimed the team title shooting 860. Lipscomb was runner-up with 865 followed by the Mocs. The Owls Mitchell Meissner and Bisons' Dawson Armstrong tied for first at 208.

UTC was doomed by a bad start. The group scratched and clawed their way up the leaderboard after sitting in 10th through 18 holes. The 573 over the final 36 holes was second only to Rice's 572.
