Men’s Golf Tied for 6th with One Round to Play in Nashville

Lake Johnson shot a career-best second round score leading the Chattanooga Mocs over 36 holes today at the Richland Country Club.

NASHVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs bounced back from a tough start to stand tied for sixth after 36 holes at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate at Richland Country Club. The Mocs 20-over total of 588 was matched by Mercer.
 
UTC opened with 301 mired in 10th after the initial 18. Andrew Weathers led the group with a level-par 71. Luke Long turned in 76 with Lake Johnson and Will Porter rounding out the counters with twin 77s.
 
It was a complete turnaround in round two. Johnson fired a career-low 67 for his afternoon card. Long posted 71 with Porter and Weathers shooting 74 and 75, respectively.
 
Three Mocs are in the top 20 with Johnson leading the way tied for 12th at 2 over. Weathers is 17th at +4 with Long tied for 18th with 5 over.
 
Rice is the team leader at 571. That puts the Owls nine ahead of Lipscomb and Western Kentucky which are tied for second at 580. Rice's Mitchell Meissner has a four-stroke lead individually at 6 under.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
  • The Mocs played close to the team averages per round. The first 18 number rose to 299.78 through nine events now, while the second round dropped to 291.33. Just for notation...the third round average is 294.28 entering tomorrow.
  • Johnson's second round 67 is a career-low tally. It included an eagle, five birdies, 10 pars, a bogey and a double. It marked a 10-shot improvement.
  • Weathers recorded 27 pars in his 36 holes. That's tied with Hickam for the tournament lead.
