Junior Maddy McDanel tied for the squad’s low round over the final 18 at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.

RESULTS | ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF

KNOXVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team finished 15th in their opening event of the season. The ladies shot 913 at Cherokee Country Club to finish ahead of South Dakota State (20 shots) and Iowa (26) in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate.

Monica San Juan and Maddy McDanel turned in matching 74s to lead today's 304 effort. Esme Hamilton was one behind with 75, while Kirsty Beckwith's 81 completed the counting cards.

San Juan led the squad for the event with 224 which tied for 31st. McDanel was next with 228, one clear of Hamilton at 229. Rheagan Hall finished with 236, while Beckwith ended at 247.

"I was happy with how we carried ourselves on the golf course," Coach Colette Murray shared. "Our attitude was good, and with the first tournament jitters out of the way, we are hoping to put together some better scores in the coming few days and few weeks."

Kent State won the team title shooting 870. That was five ahead of runner-up Middle Tennessee. Kentucky's Leonie Bettel won the individual title with a final round 65 propelling her to a 5 under finish.

San Juan played the par 3s at E for the 54 holes. That tied for fourth-best but was just one stroke behind a trio at -1.
San Juan tied for the tournament lead with 39 pars. McDanel was just one behind with 38.
Hamilton posted double-digit birdies in her first collegiate event with 10. She was just one of 13 student-athletes in the field to reach double figures.

The ladies head straight back to the tee this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championships just outside Nashville. It's a three-day, 54-hole event that begins Friday and ends Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
