Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Anne Wehunt

Soccer Falls at Lipscomb Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga suffered its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 loss at Lipscomb Sunday evening. The Mocs record evens out at 3-3 on the year and the Bison improve to 3-1-2 overall.

"I thought it was a difficult match against the ASun regular season champs," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "We scheduled this knowing it was going to be a challenge. We schedule tough opponents to prepare ourselves for Southern Conference play.

"We did create some nice opportunities throughout the game. Looking at the other side of things, the chances [Lipscomb] created, they capitalized on them."

In the second half, Chattanooga's Hollie Massey stepped up her offense, slicing through the Bison defense and got off a team-high three shots. However, she was unable to find the net.

Gale fired a shot on goal early in the match but was thwarted by Lipscomb keeper Kate Mason who saved all three shots she faced. Chattanooga keeper Melia Correa made her fourth start in goal and had two saves.

Lipscomb outshot the Mocs 12-7 and had a 5-3 shots on goal advantage. Riley Henry scored the first of her two goals in the match at the 7:24 mark of the match to give the Bison a 1-0 lead. Emanuela Schurch put Lipscomb up 2-0 in the 52nd minute when her shot found the back of the net.

With 7:45 remaining in the match, Henry fired off her third shot of the game for her second goal for the final score.

"We aspire to be beating these types of teams," McKinney said. "We've got to learn and grow before we can take that next step forward."

Chattanooga returns to Finley Stadium Friday evening to take on Murray State. The match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. Gates open one hour before the start and admission is free.
