CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams will head to Louisville for the prestigious Greater Louisville Classic Saturday at the Tom Sawyer Park. Both teams will compete in the Gold Race.
Â
"This weekend we will be running one of our favorite meets of the season in Louisville," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "The kids love the course and the weather conditions are usually very moderate, producing fast times."
Â
The Mocs have been moved up to the top Division I race that will include some of the top teams in the nation.
Â
"Like the Vandy meet two weeks ago, there will be very fast and very good teams there," Meyer said. "The last couple of years we have run in the lower level DI races and we performed well. This year we have been moved up to the feature DI race. Our kids will be towing the line with the likes of nationally ranked programs Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, MTSU and Xavier along with league foes ETSU, Wofford and Mercer.
Â
"It will be a highly competitive race."
Â
Ryan Gebelein led the men in the Commodore Classic. He, along with Mark Britt, Jonathan Boyd, Gavin Hasty, Nathan Watson and Ryan Phillips, will compete this weekend. Making his Mocs debut is transfer Micah Sneller.
Â
The women will have a large contingent of runners led by top performer Emily Poole. Also set to run this weekend are Abby Bateman, Hannah Caldwell, Julia Henderson, Brianna Nelson, Haley Morris, Sophia Neglia, Nicole Buehrle, Katie Coker and Rebekah Wich. Hitting the pitch for the first time with the Mocs is Makenzie Jones and Camille Smith.
Â
"We are looking for the kids, both guys and girls, to drop their race times over the Vandy meet and gain valuable race experience as we keep improving toward the SoCon and NCAA Region meets."
Â
Live scoring and results will be available online at GoMocs.com on the cross country schedule page.
