Volleyball Drops Saturday Match to Notre Dame

Chattanooga suffered a straight-set sweep to Notre Dame in the final match of the WKU Invitational.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-22) decision to ACC-power Notre Dame on the final day of the Holiday Inn University Plaza Hotel Invitational – hosted by WKU – Saturday evening.
 
Chattanooga falls to 4-6 on the season while Notre Dame improves to 6-2. UND earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament a season ago while finishing fourth in the ACC.
 
Senior middle blocker Emily Plumlee was named the All-Tournament team for her play over the weekend. Plumlee finished with 14 kills at a team-high .455 hitting percentage while picking up six block assists. Her weekend highlight was six kills at an .857 clip in Saturday's match against Miami (OH).
 
The WKU Invitational marked the final non-conference tournament on the UTC schedule in 2018. The Mocs have three non-SoCon matches remaining including a Saturday/Sunday road trip next weekend to defending conference champions Louisville (ACC) and No. 16 Kentucky (SEC).
 
Notre Dame 3, Chattanooga 0
Notre Dame opened the match with a convincing first set victory, 25-10. UND never let up on the momentum as they earned 25-18 and a 25-22 set wins to claim the sweep.
 
Chattanooga was limited to a season-low 25 kills on a .105 hitting percentage for the match which included a season-low -.038 mark in the first set. Notre Dame ended with 37 kills at a .278 percentage.
 
UTC's offensive attack was led by Miranda Elpers and Jaquelyn Langhaim, who each paced the team in kills with six at a combined .287 hitting percentage. Langhaim dished out a team-high 14 assists while adding five digs.
 
Emily Plumlee and Mikaela Gauthreaux followed with four kills apiece. Plumlee chipped in with a season-high 4.0 blocks. Dani Szczepanski and Brianna Anderson finished with three and two kills, respectively.
 
Megan Kaufman anchored the defense with a team-high nine digs while Brenna Everingham trailed with eight. Everingham notched two service aces, a new season and career high.
