WEST POINT, Miss.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is tied for fourth in the Magnolia Invitational after Sunday's 295. It was the opening of three 18s at Old Waverly Club.
 
Esme Hamilton led the way with an even-par 72. Rheagan Hall added 73, while Maddy McDanel and Kirsty Beckwith turned in matching 75s. Michaela Kulhankova had the drop score with 79.
 
The Mocs are tied with Tennessee in fourth. The pair trails LSU's leading 289 by six. Auburn is second with 290 followed by Mississippi State at 294. Auburn's Megan Schofill leads individually after a 3-under 69.
 
Chattanooga was 1 under at the turn, matching Tennessee and just a shot off Auburn and Mississippi State's tourney-leading starts. The treacherous back nine took a lot out of each squad, but the Mocs group played solidly down the stretch. The counters' 8 over total also ranked tied for third in the field.
 
McDanel finished off her 75 with a rare birdie on the par 4 18th hole. It played as the second-toughest on the course today yielding just McDanel's and one other bird. The hole played nearly three-quarters of a shot over par.
 
The squad collected 10 birdies, 45 pars and 17 bogeys on the four counting cards. It was the second time this season avoiding big numbers. The ladies recorded double-digit birdies for the eighth time.

3 NOTES TO KNOW

• Five straight rounds with at least one par or better card. Today's was turned in by Hamilton, her team-leading sixth of the season and career. She's averaging 69.40 strokes per 18 over her last five rounds.
• Eight of the first 10 rounds turned in at 295 or lower. The fastest to nine before this season was the opening nine of the 2016-17 season. The squad had 12 that campaign. The best season scoring average was 296.43 in 2015-16. This year's number is currently 291.60 through 10 rounds.
• The state pairing of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Memphis went the former two school's way. While the Mocs and Lady Vols played even with each other, they each topped the Tigers by 26 strokes.
