Western Carolina raced out to a 7-3 lead in the match's first ten rallies ahead of a Chattanooga answer that accumulated six of the next eight points, pulling the set even, 9-9. Both teams went back-and-forth in the scoring and locked at 20-20 before the Catamounts finished on a 5-1 run to claim a 25-21 opening set victory.
In the second set, the Mocs built an early 7-2 lead on the help of kills from
Dani Szczepanski and
Maddie Halsey, but failed to sustain the advantage after allowing a lengthy 10-1 sprint from WCU to find themselves behind, 12-8. Rebounding with eight of the next 11 points, UTC pulled ahead 16-15 on a
Gylian Finch ace, forcing a timeout from the visitors. Tied 20-20, the Catamounts once again finished with five of the set's final six points to claim a 25-21 decision and a 2-0 lead in the match.
WCU used another efficient attack to build a 7-2 lead, laying down four kills and serving a pair of aces during the early stretch. The lead grew to seven, 10-3, before UTC used a 7-2 run of its own to pull within two, 12-10. The two-point deficit would be as close as the squad could get down the stretch. Trailing 17-15, the Mocs allowed eight of the final 13 points to the Catamounts, seven of which were kills, and fell 25-20 in the set and 3-0 in the match.
