Mocs Media Luncheon - Quotes, Videos & Photos

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team returns home for 'Senior Day' this Saturday to host The Citadel for a 2:00 p.m. ET kickoff. The game is carried LIVE on the Mocs Sports Network (WFLI 1070 AM / 97.7 AM) and ESPN+.

Below are excerpts from today's press conference with photos. Today's press conference included remarks from head coach Rusty Wright, and senior tight end Chris James.

Chris James, Sr.-TE
On how the transition from quarterback to tight end came about and the process of learning the position.
"Coach [Rusty] Wright kind of brought up the idea in the spring and had me run a couple routes in practice. Going into fall camp, it was something I wanted to do. I wanted to get on the field to help the team win if that was the best possible choice for me. I think it's more of a mentality. I have a good mentality for it. I may not be the biggest tight end but I like to think I'm physical out there."

On former being coached at tight end by former UTC quarterback Jacob Huesman.
"That's pretty cool. We talked about that a couple times. He's new at coaching tight ends and I'm new at playing it. He's done a great job at converting me. It always goes back to the mentality thing and playing physical. Me and Nick [Tiano] are usually on the same page because as a quarterback you kind of know what routes you want ran, so we don't really have to talk about it."

Rusty Wright, Head Coach
On last week's win at Samford.
"Good win for us last Saturday. I thought we played as well as we had all year in the first half. Those kids played hard. We knew it wasn't going to be easy and we had a tough start to the second half. We took control of that thing about halfway through the third quarter. Even when it got a little closer, I felt comfortable. The guys played really hard. Didn't have a lot of them play, but they played hard."

On being a physical football team.
"We'll have to be another physical football this Saturday to play The Citadel. They're rolling, 4-0 in their last four games. They have a Power Five win that doesn't happen a lot at our level. They're feeling pretty good and had a week off so we'll face some new wrinkles and it'll be a challenge for us on Saturday to perform well and get things done."

On the style of The Citadel's tough offense.
"They kind of changed a little bit offensively, but it's not as much as a triple option as it used to be back in the day. It's in the quarterbacks hands a lot and it's a lot about out-numbering and out-bodying you in certain spots. We'll have our work cut out, we'll sit in there all day and try to figure it out. If you make them work, it's going to be a long day. It'll be a physical football game that's for sure."
