Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
Furman at Chattanooga
Finley Stadium – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Saturday – Nov. 2, 2019
Rusty Wright, Head Coach
On freshman RB Ailym Ford surpassing 1,000 rushing yards this season.
"He's done a great job all year, it's no shock. You see how hard that kid runs. We tried to run the clock down in the first half and he popped one off. He'll never take a play off. The offensive line does a good job for him most of the day, and with how hard he runs, if I had 10 more like him that played at that speed and that rate, we'd be a pretty good football team all the time."
On the struggles of the kicking game.
"That's the difference in the football game. We struggled all day. That's why you go for it that first drive in the second half instead of trying to take points. We didn't kick the ball in the right place all day, we didn't kick it well to start with, but things we practice we didn't do. I don't understand that. That's on me because we didn't do it a lot today. We have to try to fix it."
On the defensive efforts and what could have been done better.
"We didn't tackle very well at times. They had a lot to do with that. We had them to change quarterbacks and that's who I was worried about. We just didn't tackle well, especially in the second half. That's embarrassing at the end of the game, I'm not sure if I have ever seen that. It's on our defense. That finished off the rest of our afternoon."

On the difference between the first half and second half.
"You have to go play. I didn't yell or scream or anything, because I thought we should have been ahead. I just said hey, I'm putting it on all of you and let's figure out a way to win it. They made plays in the second half and we didn't. They went and made some things happen, we didn't. We never could get going, they kept punting us back and keeping us deep. We didn't make plays when we had to make plays. We have to learn how to find a way to finish. I have to do a better job of coaching them and putting them in better situations. I didn't do a good job preparing some of them this week to get them ready when the ball game started. We'll find a lot out about this group come Monday after two hard losses like that."
Nick Tiano, Sr.-QB
On what was the difference in today's loss.
"I think both sides of the ball, at times, we played really well and I think that's been the case all season. We have to continue to work to put it together for four quarters. I think we missed opportunities against a really good team like that, similar to last week. When we had opportunities to score especially when the defense gave us some turnovers, we have to go and put six points on that board. I think that's what we'll look back at the most from this game."
On moving forward to the last three weeks of the season.
"I'm really proud of this team, we fight until the end no matter what the score is. These were two really good teams we played and we've hung around and a chance to win both weeks. It's just finding a way to keep fighting. We have three games left and we need to win them all to give us a chance. You never know what might happen."
Ty Boeck, So.-LB
On first half effort against the effort to close the game.
"We came out in the first half and played really well, got a couple takeaways. We came out in the second half a little flat. Those last two drives we were in position to make a play and we didn't tackle well. That's on us. It's not on any of the coaches, it's on us. We look forward to coming out and having a good week of practice next week."
