The 2018-19 athletics season saw the Mocs advance to the postseason in men's and women's cross country, wrestling, women's golf and softball. UTC had two SoCon Athletes of the Year, two individual SoCon Champs, five SoCon Freshmen of the Year and a school-record 78 on the Academic All-SoCon Team.

Men's Basketball (Lamont Paris, head coach) • 12-20, 7-11 SoCon/5th
• Began the season with just one letter winner returning from 2017-18 squad, the fewest total in the nation. Earned bye in SoCon Tournament finishing in the top half of the nation's 11th-ranked conference.
• The squad combined to make a school-record 290 3pt. That came with making 36.5 percent of their 795 attempts which is the seventh-best conversion record all-time. The 9.1 made per game is also a new mark. The previous records of 289 made and 8.5 per contest came in 2008-09 and 2010-11, respectively.
• Recorded a program-record 2.97 GPA in the fall semester. Boasted two NABC Honors Court honorees in Thomas Smallwood and Jonathan Scott. Smallwood's 4.0 GPA completing his Master's in Public Administration in one year was the lone 4.0 in the SoCon among men's basketball student-athletes.
• 11-point margin of victory at Charlotte was the third-largest in a season opener ON THE ROAD behind 13 at Tennessee (82-69) on Nov. 11, 2016 and 12 at Mississippi State (85-73) on Nov. 22, 1991.
• Freshman Kevin Easley earned the squad's first Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honor. He led the squad in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg). Easley set new freshman records for points (412), rebounds (193), FG attempted (347), 3pt made (50) and 3pt attempted (126). He tied Keith Parker (1978) and Willie White (1981) for FG made with 154.
Women's Basketball (Katie Burrows, head coach) • 14-17, 8-6 SoCon/3rd

Katie Burrows was named head coach, becoming the fifth in school history.
• She joins Sharon Fanning as the second former player to lead the program.
• The Mocs hosted two top 10 ranked opponents. Louisville was ranked fourth at the time of the game and N.C. State was 10th in the AP Top 25.
• Lakelyn Bouldin was named All-Conference Second Team.
• Eboni Williams was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year; UTC's first since 1999.
• Arianne Whitaker was named to the SoCon All-Defensive Team.
• Lakelyn Bouldin was named to the All-SoCon Tournament Second Team.
• Twelve of the Mocs' opponents advanced to the postseason. Eight NCAA and four WNIT.
• UTC defeated UNCG in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament.
• Lakelyn Bouldin became the 29th member of the Mocs' 1,000-Point Club.
• The team was recognized by the NCAA for having a perfect APR score.

• The Mocs "signed" Team IMPACT's seven-year old Levi Smith.
• The women's team finished second in the Southern Conference Championships.
• The women had a final ranking of 16th in the South Region.
• The men's team ranked 21st in the final South Region poll.
• Emily Poole and Makenzie Jones earned All-Conference Second Team honors.
Football (Tom Arth, head coach) • 6-5, 4-4 SoCon/T5th
• The Mocs doubled their win total from the prevoius season under second-year head coach Tom Arth.
• UTC started the season 4-0 and climbed as high as No. 20 in the national rankings after defeating No. 17 Samford on Sept. 23.
• Chattanooga finished second in the SoCon and No. 14 in the FCS in scoring defense, allowing 21.0 points per game. The Mocs were also third in the SoCon in total defense at 362.7 yards allowed per contest.
• Senior defensive lineman Isaiah Mack capped off an outstanding career with the coaches and media SoCon Defensive Player of the Year Award. He was a finalist for the 2018 Buck Buchanan Award, posting 8.5 sacks, 11.5 TFLs and two forced fumbles on the year. He finished 17th in the voting for
the national honor. He also earned seven All-American honors.
• Sophomore receiver Bryce Nunnelly was a first team All-SoCon pick. He was second in the SoCon and sixth in the nation with 112.5 receiving yards per game.
• Junior quarterback Nick Tiano was 19th in the FCS in completion percentage (61.6%) and 16th in completions per game (21.2). He was 20th in the nation
with 246.4 passing yards per game and 23rd in total offense (268.1).
• Defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell earned multiple Freshman All-American honors.
• On Dec. 14, head coach Tom Arth stepped down to take the same position at the University of Akron. Five days later, former Moc
Rusty Wright was named the head coach at his alma mater.
Men's Golf (Mark Guhne, head coach) • 3rd SoCon
• Posted one team victory and one individual in 2018-19. The team captured the Memphis Intercollegiate with a 13-under par 851. The final total is the ninth of 13 under or better in school history.
• Sophomore Oliver Simonsen obliterated school scoring records registering his first career win at Memphis. He now owns the low 36 (132, -12) and 54-hole (195, -21) marks with the final tally besting the previous record of 13-under 203 by Stephan Jaeger winning the 2012 NCAA Bowling Green Regionals.
• Senior Lake Johnson earned Golf Coaches Association of America Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors leading the Mocs to All-Academic Team on the 18Birdies Team Academic Awards list.
• Simonsen set a record with three 65 or better 18s. Only two Mocs recorded more than one in a career (Chris Robb '14 and Tripp Harris '10 two each). He earned All-SoCon honors.
• Program boasts two alumni on the major professional tours. Former All-American Stephan Jaeger '12 played his second year on the PGA TOUR, while Liam Johnston '15 joined the European Tour in 2019.
Women's Golf (Colette Murray, head coach) • T2nd SoCon

Monica San Juan is the 6th Chattanooga Moc to capture medalist honors at the Southern Conference Championships. Her 1-under 215 is the lowest of the winning tallies at Moss Creek Golf Club in eight visits by the league. She joins Emma de Groot '11 (2011), Jordan Britt '14 (2012), Agathe Sauzon '15 (2013), Emily McLennan '16 (2014) and Megan Woods '18 (2016).
• San Juan, Kirsty Beckwith and Esme Hamilton claimed Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors. Adding those three make it 26 times total, the Mocs have dotted the annual list that requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average. It was the sixth time with three or more.
• Maddy McDanel's opening and final round 68s at Princess Anne Invitational tied for the 7th-best 18s in school history. Her 208 is 2nd only to McLennan's 205 at the 2015 Fall Invite.
• McDanel and San Juan earned All-SoCon honors, while Rheagan Hall made the league's All-Freshman squad.
• Chattanooga finished first (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) or second (2009, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) in the last 11 SoCon Championships.
Soccer (Gavin McKinney, head coach) • 8-8-3, 4-3-2 SoCon/T5th
• The Mocs posted the most wins in a season since 2004 and the most in
Gavin McKinney's four years.
• UTC just finished one point out of third place in the Southern Conference standings.
• Chloe Arnold earned All-Conference First Team honors.
• Jordan Mueller was named to the All-Conference Second Team for a second straight year.
• Hollie Massey, Maggie Shaw and Ashton Shields were named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team, the most in school history.
• The Mocs allowed just 26 goals, tied for third fewest in school history.
• UTC had a 1.31 goals against average, third lowest in school history.
• Freshman keeper Ashton Shields posted a 0.91 goals against average, second-best in school history for a single season and career.
• Chloe Arnold scored four goals, tied for fourth most in a single season. She ranks in the Top 10 all-time at UTC for scoring and goals.
Softball (Frank Reed, head coach)

• Chattanooga claimed the program's 14th Southern Conference Tournament title after defeating top-seeded UNCG, 10-1 (5), in a winner-take-all final to earn its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Mocs competed in the Oxford NCAA Regional hosted by Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss.
• Junior pitcher Celie Hudson was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year, the first for UTC since 2008, after finishing the regular season 13-9 with a SoCon-best 1.93 ERA. Freshman shortstop Emily Coltharp was tabbed the SoCon Freshman of the Year, also UTC's first since 2008, after batting .355 in the regular season.
• Senior Emma Sturdivant (1B) was named to the All-SoCon First Team alongside Hudson (P) and Coltharp (SS). Five Mocs earned All-SoCon Second Team honors including seniors Amanda Beltran (C) and Morgan Kazerooni (UTL), juniors Hayleigh Weissenbach (OF) and Aly Walker (DP), and freshman Mariah Ramirez (P).
• Chattanooga won 13 of its first 14 games of this year to start 13-1, tying the best start to a season in program history.
• The pitching staff carried a SoCon-best 2.34 ERA in 2019 and ranked among the top 40 in NCAA DI. Freshman pitcher Mariah Ramirez began the season 11-0 and was the lone freshman in the nation with 10+ wins and 0 losses.
• Chattanooga earned a combined seven Southern Conference weekly honors between pitcher and player of the week. It ties for second most for UTC in a single season since the weekly awards began in 1994.
• Junior Aly Walker was named the 2019 Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year in a vote among league coaches.
• The 2019 Southern Conference Softball Championship was hosted by Chattanooga at Jim Frost Stadium for the 11th time in program history, most of any member institution in the league.
Men's Tennis (Chuck Merzbacher, head coach) • 14-11, 4-3 SoCon/3rd
• The Mocs posted their most wins since 2012 and their highest finish in the SoCon regular season race since 1999.
• It was also their most league wins in a season since 2013.
• Kerim Hyatt was named SoCon Freshman of the Year after posting a 21-14 record in singles play, including a 5-2 mark in conference matches.
• Hyatt and junior Simon Bustamante were first time All-SoCon in doubles after posting a 14-7 mark in the top spot in the spring.
• Junior Niklas Gerdes repeated as the winner of the Don Bunch/Buddy Hartsell Sportsmanship Award. Chattanooga has won the award four of the last five years. Gerdes was 20-11 on the year and 5-2 in conference play at No. 1, good enough to also earn first-team all-conference honors.
• Gerdes teamed with freshman Tomas Rodriguez to grab second team doubles honors. They were 18-3 in the spring, mostly at the No. 2 position, and 6-1 in SoCon action.
• Rodriguez, who was 21-12 overall and 14-9 at No. 2 singles, joined Hyatt on the all-freshman team.
• The team was recognized by the NCAA for having a perfect APR score.
Women's Tennis (Chad Camper, head coach) • 8-13, 1-6 SoCon/8th
• The Mocs were 8-13 under third-year head coach
Chad Camper in 2019.
• UTC was led by seniors Delaney Edwards at No. 1, Carolina Hall at No. 3 and Annie Tarwater at No. 6.
• Hall and sophomore Emma Van Hee were both 10-9 in singles during the spring season.
• Van Hee teamed with Edwards for a 9-9 mark at No. 1 doubles.

• Kennedy Thomson broke the school record in the mile and the 800 meter at the SoCon Indoor Championships.
• Kennedy Thomson earned indoor track all-conference honors in the 800m.
• The women's indoor Distance Medley Relay team earned all-conference honors.
• Kennedy Thomson named SoCon Runner of the Week in outdoor track.
• Thomson broke the school record in the 800m outdoor at the Raleigh Relays.
• Mark Britt earned the SoCon David Knight Graduate Scholarship.
• Abby Bateman named Google Cloud Academic All-American selected by CoSIDA. Also named Academic All-District First Team.
• Kennedy Thomson was selected to represent Team Canada in the 800m at the NACAC.
Volleyball (Travis Filar, head coach) • 10-20, 6-10 SoCon/7th
• Head Coach
Travis Filar earned his 100th career coaching victory at UTC in a straight-set sweep over his alma mater and SoCon-foe Furman inside Maclellan Gymnasium.
• Junior Dani Szczepanski was named to the 2018 All-Southern Conference second team while the freshman duo of Gylian Finch and Jaque Langhaim landed on the all-rookie squad for the season.
• Chattanooga opened the season with a win over Belmont before sweeping three matches in its own Chattanooga Classic to claim its third tournament title in the last four seasons.
• Szczepanski was named the Chattanooga Classic's 'Most Outstanding Player' while sophomore Megan Kaufman and Langhaim joined her on the all-tournament team.
• Chattanooga swept three matches in its own Chattanooga Classic to claim its third tournament title in the last four seasons.
• Megan Kaufman was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® III First Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). A 4.0 student in the classroom, Kaufman was just the sixth Moc to ever receive the all-district honor.
• The team posted a 3.60 GPA, tying a program record, and placed new highs with 17 student-athletes achieving Dean's List status and 19 earning a spot on the AD's Honor Roll.
• Seven volleyball student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Southern Conference team, tying for its second best showing.
Wrestling (Kyle Ruschell, head coach) • 7-7, 5-1 SoCon/T1st
• The Mocs posted a 7-7 overall record and shared the SoCon Regular Season Title with a 5-1 league mark under first year year coach

• Historically, UTC has won 17 SoCon regular season titles since the league
began recognizing a season champ in 1992.
• UTC finished third at the SoCon Championships.
• Junior Chris Debien won the SoCon Title at 141 pounds and was 24-12 overall.
• The four who represented Chattanooga at the NCAA Championships were senior Alonzo Allen (125), junior Chris Debien (141), freshman Tyler Smith (149) and junior Rodney Jones (197).
• Tanner Smith was the SoCon Freshman of the Year with an 11-7 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in league matches, at 149 pounds.
• Junior Jake Huffine earned the prestigious Dayle May Award, given to the graduating male and female student-athletes with the top overall grade-pointaverage. Huffine carried a 4.0 cumulative GPA and graduated with honors with an Accounting degree in May 2019. He is the fifth wrestler to earn the honor, joining Jim Morgan (1960), Pat Murphy (1983), Kevin Baltz (2000) and John Lampe (2016).
