Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Mercer
Hawkins Arena – Macon, Ga.
Saturday – Feb. 23, 2019
Head Coach Lamont Paris
On the play of Ross Cummings:
"He made some tough shots. Some shots that your coach would never say, that was a good look. Probably made four of those. Then he had some other ones. He probably made four other ones that we made too easy on him. Then the rest of them were probably the general, run-of-the-mill basketball plays that are going to happen. He is a good player, there is no question. He scored 37 points like that for a reason."
More thoughts on the game:
"We gave up 18 second-chance points. 18 second-chance points. We were fouling at the end, so they were headed to a mid-60's scoring game and that gives you are effect in (rebounding). 18 points. Think about that."
On giving up 40 points in the second half:
"I wasn't even mad, I was frustrated with the guys in the locker room. I didn't get mad. What are you going to do. We didn't get one time where a guy got a foul called because he was blocking out someone hard. You have to be fed up with giving up offensive rebounds. What are you made out of? What is inside you? What are you made out of at the end of the day?
"It is not just the bigs. Sometimes in our ball screen coverages, the big runs loose a little bit. When the big has to take the guard and the guard has to crack down on the big, you have to fight with him. We didn't get any of those. Not one time did we have a guy sitting down on a bigs legs. It is something that we have shown that we can do. In other games, we have done it."
"Overall as a team, we didn't compete on the boards. We have to do some soul-searching to get that thing figured out. That is one of the more correctable things in the world. If you had a team that was just there laying bricks from three, you go back to the lab and figure out how to get a better three-point FG percentage. I don't know how you do that, but you can be more physical as a rebounding team. I know you can do that."Â
On the three-point shooting in the second half:
"We had some good ones. There weren't all good. A couple of them at the end. We air-balled one when we were wide open. AJ had at least one wide-open. Donovann had at least one wide open. We were getting good looks because of breakdowns and we didn't hit them. We also had a couple that were fair on the quality standpoint. They played good defense and you are asking a guy to make a shot."  Â
On Mercer's play in the second half:
"The pressure hurt us too. They got aggressive. The pressure hurt us and we didn't score the ball. We wanted to get it inside more and get to the free throw line. We should have made more of a concerted effort to force-feed it to the post."
David Jean-Baptiste – 3 – So. – G
On play at the end of the game:
"The same things that won us the game at The Citadel are the same things that loss us the game here. The stops, the boxing out. They had 18 second-chance points and I feel like that killed us. Not getting stops at the end of the game and not getting those rebounds that we needed."
On the last two home games:
"We have to give it all we got. Two home games left. We have to play like we have none left and give it all we got and leave it all on the court.
"It is the last two games. We are going to need everybody to come out. We need you guys there. Hopefully, everyone will be there and at the SoCon Tournament to help us make a run."
Keigan Kerby – 22 – Fr. – F
On the Mocs rebounding:
"We definitely have to get back and practice on our rebounding. It is not something you can stop working on halfway through the season. I know we haven't stopped working on it, but it is not something you can just turn on and off. You have to have the mentality going in to it that you have to have every rebound and you have to do whatever you can to get it."Â
On his first college dunk:
"That was my first college dunk. I did get the loss, but that was definitely a big experience for me. I was telling Fuss before the game that I needed to get one. I caught it, turned and there was no one in front of me. I saw the big man and thought, here is your chance. You have to take this one while you can get it. It happened and I was pumped. My team loved it and I tried to give us an energy boost."
