OPELIKA, Ala.---The Chattanooga Mocs are in 12th-place through 36 holes of the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner. Chattanooga made its way around the Grand National Lake Course shooting 299. The 604 total is four behind Missouri in 11th and three clear of Austin Peay in 13th.
 
Freshman Oliver Simonsen overcame a tough start to shoot 41 spots up the leaderboard. The Mocs started their day on No. 10. Simonsen triple bogeyed the par 5 12th before clawing his way back.
 
He birdied 13 and 14 followed by pars on 15 and 16. Back-to-back birdies closed his nine turning at 1 under. Simonsen added birdies and four, five and seven ending at 3-under 69 after finishing with a bogey on nine.
 
Etienne Brault shot 76, while Lake Johnson and Connor Nolan rounded out the counting cards with 77s. Leon Bader had the drop score of 83.
 
No. 10 Auburn takes a nine-shot leaded into the final round. No. 6 SMU is second, one ahead of first-round leader No. 21 Arkansas State. Georgia State's Josh Edgar tops the player leader board at 6-under 138.
 
Tuesday's final round starts at 9:50 a.m., Eastern time. The Mocs are paired with Austin Peay and Florida Atlantic. The trio tees off of No. 10 with Bader leading off followed by Brault (10:00), Nolan (10:10), Johnson (10:20) and Simonsen (10:30).

3 NOTES TO KNOW

• Oliver Simonsen celebrated his birthday with seven birdies…6th time with five or more on his card this year and fourth with seven-plus…high is eight turned in the final 18 of his win in Memphis and again completing the Autotrader Collegiate.
• Squad is 5 over on the par 5s this week…74 under on the season entering the event averaging 4.73…10 under or better in the last five events after opening the season even at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
• Simonsen's 69 is his eighth card in the 60s this season and 13th par or better…eight rounds in the 60s ties former All-American Chris Robb's 2013-14 total in fourth in the Mocs records behind Stephan Jaeger (13, 2011-12), Derek Rende (10, 2007-08) and Jonathan Hodge (9, 2007-08).
