MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team shook off a tough game one loss to Florida A&M and cruised to a game two victory over St. John's to earn a doubleheader split on the second day of the Madeira Beach Invitational III Saturday afternoon.
Chattanooga (13-2) dropped the day's first game to Florida A&M (3-12) in extras, 5-4, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning. UTC committed three errors and allowed four of the five FAMU runs to go down as unearned.
During game two, the Chattanooga (14-2) offense exploded for 11 runs on eight hits to down St. John's (4-7), 11-4.
Mariah Ramirez earned a complete game win in the circle while
Amanda Beltran homered and drove in three.

Florida A&M jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the home half of the first after UTC allowed an unearned run to cross the plate due to a fielding error.
Chattanooga's
Halie Williamson and
Devan Brown responded with back-to-back doubles in the top of the second to tie the game before a fielding error on an
Alyssa Coppinger single to center put UTC ahead 2-1 after two.
After a scoreless third, FAMU struck for a run in the home half of the fourth on the help of three hits to tie the game 2-2.
Amanda Beltran ended the Lady Rattlers threat by catching a potential base-stealer to end the inning.
FAMU applied the pressure in the fifth inning and took a two-run lead, 4-2, after a pair of UTC errors allowed the inning to blossom. Both runs in the inning went down as unearned to starting pitcher
Heidi Hall and
Allison Swinford, who entered in the inning as Hall's relief.
Chattanooga put together a late-game rally in the top of the sixth by loading the bases with the first three hitters of the inning. Brown capitalized on the situation with a SAC fly to right to pull the Mocs within one at 4-3.
Sidney Swantic recorded the game-tying RBI after being plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The game entered extra innings after a scoreless seventh inning and was played under the International tie-breaking rules (runner placed on second base to begin the inning). UTC failed to score the runner while FAMU needed just two batters to push the run across, walking off with a 5-4 victory.
Hall made her first start of the season in the circle and produced a more-than solid outing. She tossed 4.0 inning and allowed just five hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out one. Swinford tossed 1.0 inning of relief, surrendering three hits and two runs that were both unearned.
Celie Hudson (5-2) suffered the loss after entering the game in the sixth. She went 2.1 innings and allowed three hits and one unearned run while striking out two.
Chattanooga left nine runners on base and collected just seven hits as a team. UTC left two or more runners on three separate occasions.

Amanda Beltran started the scoring in the top of the second after launching her fifth homerun of the season, a solo shot that cleared well over the left-center fence, to give UTC an early 1-0 lead.
Starting pitcher
Mariah Ramirez allowed just one base runner over the first three innings to protect the single-run advantage before the UTC offense created separation in the top of the fourth.
Chattanooga scored seven runs on just two hits and one St. John's error to amass a sizable 8-0 lead.
Alyssa Coppinger drew a bases-loaded walk to kick things off before a Red Storm fielding error with two outs allowed the avalanche of runs to occur.
Aly Walker and
Emma Sturdivant recorded RBI singles in the inning while Beltran chipped in with a two-RBI single. In addition,
Halie Williamson also drew a bases-loaded walk to record an RBI.
St. John's answered in the home half of the inning with a two-run homerun to left-center before Ramirez settled in and escaped a jam to hold on to the six-run lead, 8-2. SJU would add a run in the fifth on a hard-hit ball up the middle to pull within five.
Sturdivant and
Morgan Kazerooni both delivered RBI singles in the sixth before Walker added another one in the seventh to extend the UTC edge to 11-3. The Red Storm scored one run on three hits in the final frame before Ramirez completed what she started with a groundout to third, ending the game at 11-4.
Ramirez (5-0) earned the victory in the circle after hurling all 7.0 innings while allowing eight hits and four earned runs. She struck out three and walked six during the 125-pitch complete game performance.
Chattanooga scored 11 runs on eight hits, seven of which were singles, while stranding eight on base. Five different Mocs recorded a hit while Beltran (3), Sturdivant (2) and Walker (2) all recorded multi-RBI games in the win.
